August 2021A Message from the Dean of Students To the parents, guardians, and families of our new students, welcome to the SUNY Geneseo community. To our returning families, welcome back! This issue of the parent newsletter is largely limited to material you and your student need to know before Move-In Day and the start of classes. As we prepare for a fully in-person experience in a few days, we are mindful that it takes every one of us to keep each other safe and healthy. Please encourage your student to follow all the safety protocols and to get vaccinated! To all, a happy
new academic year! Lenny Sancilio SUNY Geneseo will return to an on-campus experience with in-person classes in Fall 2021. Mask Update The Delta variant of COVID-19 has caused an increase in transmission rates across New York State. As a result, all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear a mask indoors except while alone in their personal work and living spaces. We will continue to monitor the dynamic pandemic conditions and will reassess the indoor mask-wearing requirement by September 23. Vaccine Update Pending final approval of a vaccine by the FDA, SUNY colleges and universities will require all students to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Geneseo anticipates FDA vaccine approval soon and encourages all students to consider getting vaccinated before the Fall 2021 semester begins on August 30. All incoming and returning students should have received their housing assignment sent on August 1, along with information about Move-In. Residents are able to schedule their move-in day and time using the request form sent in the assignment letter by August 13. After that date, students will be assigned a move-in day and time. Please visit the link below for the all the details on Move-in, including the latest COVID-19 safety protocols. Orientation and Weeks of Welcome (WOW) help transition first year and transfer students to the next steps of their academic and life journeys. Participation in Orientation & WOW activities is one of the best ways to start getting the most out of the Geneseo experience. This year, the College is also offering specific events for sophomores and a specialized orientation program for new international students. Questions? Email the Orientation team or call 585-245-5723. Resources Information for New Students
