New MOA De-escalation Tools

The Community Physician Health and Safety (CPHS) Program is pleased to announce the launch of new Medical Office Staff de-escalation tools. These tools were developed in direct response to the growing need for de-escalation support for community clinics and their medical office staff (MOS). Shaped by the input and experiences of MOS and physicians from a wide range of clinics across British Columbia, these resources are designed to support safer, more confident staff-to-patient interactions in community practice settings.

Benefits include maintaining a safe environment, improving staff well-being and confidence, strengthening patient relationships, decreasing complaints, enhancing overall clinic efficiency, and supporting staff retention.

Explore the tools here.

SWITCH BC’s Community Physician Health and Safety Program

SWITCH BC’s Community Physician Health and Safety Program supports medical clinics with their workplace health and safety needs while helping meet legislative requirements. All services are funded through the 2022 Physician Master Agreement as negotiated by Doctors of BC and the Ministry of Health. Please see the attached file for more details and view testimonials here.

We are offering free, confidential, and voluntary in-clinic health and safety assessments.

What the on-site Clinic Assessment visit includes:

  • A conversation about your clinic’s current health and safety practices. Areas of focus might include incident response, managing risks, non-medical emergency preparedness, worker training, and violence prevention.
  • A walkthrough and discussion on findings.
  • Following the on-site visit, a personalized report with clear, practical recommendations and ready-to-use tools and templates will be sent to you (reports are sent 10-15 business days after the assessment).
  • There is also the option to have a follow-up virtual meeting with the health and safety advisor to review the report and answer any new questions.

The clinic assessment is approximately 90 minutes and designed to be unobtrusive to your daily operations, while offering valuable insights to support a safer work environment, improve patient care, and meet compliance standards. No preparation is needed.

We can set up a brief 20-minute virtual discovery meeting ahead of the visit to better understand the clinic’s needs.

Book a discovery meeting here.

Feel free to reach out with any questions at cphs@switchbc.ca. We look forward to hearing from you.

Updated LFP Payment Schedule – effective July 1, 2025

A new payment schedule has been released effective July 1, 2025.

The payment schedule includes an extension of the Transition Code (98001) and Transition Form process until March 31, 2026.

  • This allows physicians to identify that they will be providing more than 30% of their clinic-based care to non-panel patients while they transition their practice to meet the payment model requirements.
  • The updated LFP Payment Schedule will also require family physicians who still require an exception in 2026 to resubmit the Transition Code and Transition Form between January 1 and March 31, 2026.
  • Read more in this BC Family Doctors’ news article (member login required).

In addition, a couple minor clarifications have been made:

  • Update to the list of Hospital at Home fees that are billable under fee-for-service. Learn more about Hospital at Home fee updates in this BC Family Doctors' news article (member login required).
  • Removal of FPSC network fee codes (14086, 14010) as these are now claimed by submitting an FPSC claim form annually. Read more about the Assigned Inpatient Care Network Payment and Maternity Care Network Payment.

We recommend reviewing the updated LFP Payment Schedule in its entirety to ensure that you are billing accurately. BC Family Doctors’ web resources, including the Simplified LFP Guide, have been updated to reflect all of the changes in the payment schedule.
