Click here 25 January 2024Cr Karen Pensabene, Mayor of Strathfield Dear Residents I’m excited to share our commitment for 2024 to tackle waste and recycling challenges in our community. This year, we are introducing new initiatives aimed at sustainable practices. Look out for your waste and recycling/street sweeping calendar arriving in your letterbox soon. The NSW Government has mandated all councils to go FOGO by 2030 – recycling food waste into compost! We will soon be undertaking community consultations and audits to gradually transition to the FOGO service. Your feedback and engagement will play a crucial role in achieving our goals. Let’s work together for a cleaner, greener Strathfield. You have probably noticed our wonderful council staff renewing our footpaths. The roads upgrade will follow, and these improvements will increase the safety and appearance of our beautiful streets. We have also introduced “checking your speed “mobile cameras” to maintain safe driving speeds. Your co-operation is key in creating a secure environment for all. Please note that double de-merit points will begin from tonight for the weekend, so please stay safe. As the school holidays come to an end, my thoughts are with all of you preparing for the new academic year. To the High School newcomers and our little ones starting primary school, I wish you a smooth transition. May you quickly find your place in your school community, make new friends and embark on a year of growth. To all the Year 12 students, keep up the great work you have started and focus on staying well and happy during the year. Excitement is building for our Australia Day celebrations tomorrow Friday January 26. Looking forward to seeing you all at Strathfield Square from 4.00pm. Our traditional smoking ceremony will take place at 4.15pm and I will be joined by the Consulate General of Japan. I will also be introducing our newly named 2024 Strathfield Citizen of the Year and our Young Citizen of the Year. There will be fabulous fun activities and an amazing reptile show. If you need to contact me or have any questions, please do so by emailing me cr.kpensabene@strathfield.nsw.gov.au or ring our office on 9748 9999 See you tomorrow for Australia Day fun at Strathfield Square!
