Winner of the Sid the Sloth Membership Competition at Casey Cardinia Libraries

What's on in May at your local library

Welcome to May at your local library, where as usual we have plenty in store for you.

The Sid the Sloth children's membership drive continues, with our latest champion Kurt (pictured above) winning a $100 Toymate voucher simply by visiting and becoming a member.

Join your kids up next time you visit the library and they will receive their very own membership card. If they visit three times before June 30, 2023 they can also go into the draw for the major prize.

We're excited to welcome some fantastic authors to Bunjil Place this month with Jane Harper,  Fiona Lowe & Ilsa Evans, and Jonathan Butler all visiting. Book your tickets today for these unmissable events!

Another fantastic and free event to put into your diary is the Shared Stories local history festival at Pakenham Hall on Sunday 7 May, presented in collaboration with Myli (My Community Library) and local heritage groups. No bookings are needed, we look forward to seeing you there!

We love nothing more than seeing our libraries buzzing with activity, so if you haven't visited recently, drop into any one of our five libraries this month and see what we have to offer.

See you at the library!

Libraries Victoria Holds Returning

We are happy to announce that inter-library loans are returning as of Monday 1 May, 2023.

We know how important it is to many of our members to have access to other library service collections in the Libraries Victoria network, but we need you to know there are some changes coming to this service.

From Monday 1 May 2023, the following will apply:

  • A limit of 20 holds per member at any one time (to meet the new state-wide Public Libraries Victoria standard).
  • Weekly delivery of inter-library loan items to increase efficiency. Please be aware delays may apply.
  • New release titles may no longer be eligible for inter-library loans.
  • If we do not have the title in question available in our local collection, please use the purchase request option.
  • We ask members to be mindful of the costs of an inter-library loan. Moving books involves carbon miles and costs for the borrowing library. It’s up to all of us to ensure we responsibly use this service.

If you have any queries about this change in service please contact your library, email information@cclc.vic.gov.au or call 1800 577 548.

Book group at Casey Cardinia Libraries

Would you like to join a book group?

The shared experience of reading the same thing in a book group can be a great way to connect.

You can either start your very own library book group or join an existing one.

Each month the members of the group read a different book, trying new authors and styles of writing.

Rather than going to the added expense of buying a new book each month, Book groups can borrow group sets from their local library, which is a real advantage

A large collection of book sets are available from the library, with each set including 10 copies of the same title plus a comprehensive folder of discussion notes.

Most of the titles in this collection are recent releases and about a third have Australian authors or settings.
