Click here The Big Summer Read, Sensitive Santa and Deliver Joy!As we approach the end of the year, our libraries are busier than ever – and we have loads of things to do over the summer. Deliver Joy kicks off after Melbourne Cup and we are proud to be partnering with 5 local charities to donate non-perishable items, unwrapped toys and toiletries to Casey locals in need. Last year more than $17 000 in food, toys and toiletries was received so we are aiming to crack $20 000 this year! We are also welcoming Sensitive Santa back into our libraries this year. Sensitive Santa is trained in communicating with children with sensory needs while they get their photo taken with Santa. Sessions are free but bookings are limited so don't delay and book today. Big Summer Read is here again, an initiative that encourages kids to continue reading over the school holidays to stop the 'summer slide' in their literacy skills. There are great prizes and incentives up for grabs to tempt reluctant readers! A reminder that libraries will be closed on Tuesday 7 November for the Melbourne Cup Public Holiday. All libraries will also be closed Thursday 30 November for a staff professional development day where our team have a full day of training so that we an deliver the best library service we can for you. While our libraries are closed for the day, return chutes are always open at all libraries 24/7, so return your materials anytime. See you in the library. Beth Luppino Big Summer ReadThe Big Summer Read is a Victorian summer reading campaign for children, developed to encourage children from ages 0-18 to continue reading over summer. The Big Summer Read addresses the loss of literacy that often occurs over the long Summer break when children are not regularly reading. We encourage children to participate by reading and logging a minimum of 10 books read over the summer holidays on the Beanstack App. Statewide prizes provided by the Big Summer Read, as well as prizes provided by our libraries including a $50 Robinsons Bookshop voucher for each library and the grand prize of a Nintendo Switch! Registration opens on Monday 6 November, and the challenge runs from Friday 1 December until Wednesday 31 January. Sensitive Santa is visiting Cranbourne and Endeavour Hills Library!Sensitive Santa allows children who are neuro-diverse and/or with developmental disabilities (including Autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, intellectual disabilities, Cerebral Palsy) to access Santa in a
sensory friendly environment.
