We celebrated Wilkinson seniors receiving honors in their majors and minors, and our multiple university leadership award winners (read more below). We enjoyed a wonderful keynote speech at the Wilkinson College graduation ceremony by Nicole Saito, a Political Science, History, and Economics triple major with a minor in Mathematics. Nicole was the winner of the first-ever Student Commencement Speaker contest run by the Wilkinson College Student Advisory and Leadership Council, establishing a new tradition of having a student-selected speaker at Commencement annually. Murad was also the keynote speaker at the 2022 Chapman University commencement ceremony. Celebrating the 2022 Student Award WinnersStudents in Wilkinson College were recently recognized with honors in a series of events that constituted this year’s annual Wilkinson award ceremonies and the 14th annual Campus Leadership Awards. Feminist Theory is Liberatory in PracticeGraduating seniors from the Women’s & Gender Studies Minor Program recently installed a feminist (theory) pop-up exhibition, Feminist Theory Is Liberatory Practice in Argyros Forum. The wall celebrated a number of feminist theorists whose work as scholar-activists seeks to deepen our understanding of historical and contemporary struggles for social justice, and strengthen our resolve to believe in the possibility of social change and a more feminist future. Student Honored As Voice of OC’s Inaugural Tracy Wood FellowAngelina Hicks (‘23, Strategic and Corporate Communications, Journalism) was selected as the inaugural Tracy A. Wood Fellow for Voice of OC. Hicks discusses Wilkinson College's role in helping her grow an impressive portfolio of published work and preparing her for real-world journalism. Peace Studies Professor Appointed to the UNAssistant Professor in Peace Studies Dr. Claudia Fuentes-Julio will be assuming a new role as Chilean Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) in Geneva. Although she’s moving to Geneva, Fuentes-Julio does plan to stay connected with her Wilkinson College colleagues and looks forward to ongoing collaboration to support students. Gift of the Month Engaging the World combines course-work and extra-curricular programming to promote mindful reflection and thoughtful dialogue around critical social issues of our times. We are proud that our donors see fit to promote such amazing programming through their philanthropic efforts. The daughter of Wilkinson College’s namesake, Dr. Karen Wilkinson and her husband Reverend Reginald Lancaster, have renewed their support of the Engaging the World series to make sure our students receive the liberal arts education that makes Wilkinson College the heart and soul of Chapman University. Rex Wilde ('11, Sociology) is an LGBTQ+ educator, speaker and consultant specializing in gender diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Rex has worked with over 200 companies including Dropbox, Spectrum/Charter Networks, Roche, Sundance Institute, City of LA, The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, the Western Business Alliance Summit, and the California Workforce Development Board.
