Click here REMEMBRANCE DAY Yesterday, we observed the annual moment of silence in remembrance of those who have lost their lives in the First World War and all conflicts and wars since. We are incredibly blessed to live in Australia with so many freedoms, and we have the brave people who fought for that freedom to thank. With Remembrance Day being yesterday, I would like to take an extra moment to reflect on the sacrifice of those who have given up their lives, safety and time to keep us all safe and free. FIRBANK AQUASTARS TEAM UP FOR A CAUSE The Firbank Aquastars have teamed up to raise $1,200 for Lung Cancer Awareness. The club decided to raise money for the cause in recognition of families within the club impacted by lung cancer and in memory of long-serving coach, Paul McDermott. THE FIRBANK TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP The Firbank Tennis Championship is on again. It will be played on Sunday, 21 November on the Turner House tennis courts. The Championship is open to all Senior School students in both singles and doubles competitions. If students are keen to play in the Firbank Tennis Championship they should complete the form by clicking below and return it to Peter Russo, Director of Sport. FIRBANK IN THE COMMUNITY - BRIGHTON LIFESAVING CLUB BRIGHTON LIFE SAVING CLUB ANNUAL REPORT The next couple of years for BLSC are extremely important and we are confident of a positive outcome for all. I am personally delighted to see younger members of our club being so involved in many aspects of what BLSC offers. NEW DENDY STREET BEACH PAVILION Designs for the new Dendy Street Beach pavilion and surrounds have been refined based on community feedback. Much of the feedback was that the building was too grey and uninviting. It’s that time of the week again – small business Friday! Established in 2016, Gathered Here is Australia’s largest end-of-life services website. Providing services to help people prepare for and manage end-of-life situations, including wills, probate and funerals, Gathered Here is supported by an in-house legal team of highly experienced will and estate lawyers. Their purpose is to redesign the industry to be more approachable and accessible, giving people the knowledge and tools needed to navigate everything relating to end of life with confidence. They have recently launched a free online wills platform to help the 70% of Australians who know they should have a will but don’t. They have a special offer for our Firbank community: free legally binding wills and updates for life! Work on the Louis Williams building continues to go ahead in a COVIDSafe manner, with more work done on the parapets this week. Honouring the legacy of this historic Firbank building, the Arts Precinct project will give our students a world-class area to learn and enjoy art. The project is due to be completed early in 2022. FIRBANK’S HUMANITIES STUDENTS MAKING HISTORY Firbank’s humanities students are making history and uncovering it in the National History Challenge. Congratulations to Ruby L (Year 7 category), Yuan Yuan L (Year 8 Asia-Australian Relationships) and Martha I (Year 8 Indigenous History), who all won silver medals in their categories after their entries were judged at the national level.
