Click here 6 July 2023Cr Karen Pensabene, Mayor of Strathfield Councillors were given a tour of the projected works that we will be undertaking with the State Government’s WestInvest funding. Airey Park, Hudson Park, Begnell Field and Strathfield Park will be receiving some particularly important upgrades to improve the accessibility, lighting, drainage and all-round functionality of the grounds and public amenities. These works will take over 3 years to complete, and I am sure there will be a huge improvement to the parks in the future. I had the honour of being a part of two Senior events this week. Monday morning was spent with the Homebush-West Seniors Group where we listened to Senior Constable Jim Dixon’s talk on safety when at home and withdrawing money from an ATM machine. We also learnt that after 16 years of dedicated service and numerous accomplishments serving the Strathfield Community, Senior Constable Jim Dixon is retiring. We wish him well in his retirement and thank him for his wonderful service, especially his special interest in our seniors. I also attended the School for Seniors AGM. They welcomed a new president and set up the committee for another exciting year for this group. Art, craft, bridge, knitting and crocheting are just a few of the activities that are available at this school that meets every Friday morning at the Uniting Church located at Carrington St Street Strathfield. If you require more information to either of these groups, please contact: Homebush West Seniors Secretary Loga Sebaratanm and Helen Lucas at School for Seniors. I hope everyone is enjoying the school holidays and as always if you require any help or information, please contact the office or email me on cr.kpensabene@strathfield.nsw.gov.au Cheer On the Matildas in the Square Council will be hosting a live site to stream matches featuring the Australian National team in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup at Strathfield Square. THROWBACK THURSDAY Hector of Homebush In late December 1823 a notable death occurred at the Home-bush property of D’Arcy Wentworth that gave our suburb its name. Hector, a fine, bay Arab horse was aged about 31 and had previously been owned by merchant, Robert Campbell and formerly by the Duke of Wellington. He had spent time in England, Europe and India before arriving in Sydney in about 1806. Quality horses were few at that time and Hector earned Wentworth a good income in stud fees. His progeny were also highly valued. ‘He was the most outstanding sire during the first decade of Australian racing.’ Barrie, Douglas M. ‘The Australian Bloodhorse’ Sydney: Angus & Robertson, 1956 EVENTS Bilingual Storytime - English & Korean When: 31 July - 18 September DEVELOPMENT NOTIFICATIONS Development Application 2A Madeline St, Strathfield South Use of the premises for wholesale supplies (alcohol distribution).
