SEAT Submission Deadline

The SEAT database continues to grow and now includes over 3,200 Facility Engagement activities, which you can review for ideas, information, and activities to leverage at your MSA.

A friendly reminder that the next submission deadline is Wednesday, October 15th, for Quarters 1 and 2 (April - September updates). Please update your SEAT-designated engagement activities in FEMS with any significant milestones over the last six months by the deadline. There’s no need to wait - you can make updates anytime between now and the deadline.

Please also review your non-SEAT designated activities in FEMS and move the SEAT toggle to ‘YES’ if your activity builds engagement and communication with medical staff colleagues and/or your hospital or health authority; contributes to physician wellness, leadership, redevelopment, training and/or technology; and/or seeks to improve patient quality. Select the ‘N/A’ filter option from the Activities tab to check which activities are not SEAT-designated.

It is important to highlight your work in the SEAT database because, as a program, we rely on this information to demonstrate impact. Documenting your efforts helps us showcase the valuable work being done and provides evidence that we’re making meaningful progress in driving engagement across the province.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with seatsupport@doctorsofbc.ca.

FEMS Tip of the Month

This month, we have TWO tips for everyone!

The first tip surrounds common FEMS ticket submissions and their accompanying solutions.

  1. Can a physician not access their account because it has expired? Or they forgot their password?  Please see here for the tip sheet that helps you get them back into their account.
  2. Do you need to manage existing engagement activity budgets or return budgets from declined or on-hold activities? Check here for the steps to do so.
  3. Has a new physician joined your MSA and already has a FEMS account? See here for how to add them to your member list.

The second tip is for physician societies only.

Executive members of a physician society are considered employees of the society, and as a result, require payroll taxes to be deducted from their governance work.  This is achieved by turning the governance toggle on when creating the engagement activity. This toggle allows the physician society accountant to move these payments to their accounting software, remove the appropriate taxes, and then submit them to the CRA.

It is important for physician society administrators to create two activities at the beginning of the fiscal year.  One for the governance payments with the toggle turned on, as noted above, and another one for CRA remittances, with the toggle turned off, for the accountant to enter the CRA amounts throughout the year.  Please see the tip sheet with this information encapsulated here.

Knowledge-Sharing Highlights

This month, we are highlighting a new 60-second story on how Campbell River’s BiRCH (BIrth Related Cardiovascular Health Clinic) is paving the way for preventing cardiovascular risks and improving maternal health in smaller communities.

The project emerged from an identified gap of 27% of patients experiencing pregnancy complications associated with future cardiovascular risk, with no follow-up care.

Project outcomes include:

  • In the first year, 70% of patients were referred, and 57% brought their babies to BiRCH Clinic
  • In the second year, 94% of patients were referred, and 78% attended the BiRCH Clinic

The project’s storyboard and website provide more information and resources for any physicians or MSAs interested in the project.

Did you know...? On September 2nd, 1985, scientists discovered the wreck of the RMS Titanic. The ship sank in 1912 after hitting an iceberg and was located by a joint American-French expedition led by Dr. Robert Ballard.
