The monthly E-News shares provincial program information and updates about the Facility Engagement program. This information will interest Medical Staff Association (MSA) support teams, but please feel free to forward the newsletter to your MSA executives as well.
Facility Engagement Quality Improvement Training for MSA Administrators
Facility Engagement (FE) is excited to be collaborating with the provincial SSC Physician Quality Improvement (PQI) team a third time to offer MSA administrators complimentary access to PQI Level 1 training via the online Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Open School platform.
PQI Level 1 Core Modules take approximately 4-5 hours of self-directed learning time* and include the following modules:
- QI 101: Introduction to Health Care Improvement
- QI 102: How to Improve with the Model for Improvement
QI 103: Testing and Measuring Changes with PDSA Cycles
Once you have access to IHI Open School, you will also have full access to many other resources, templates, papers, and other self-paced courses available on IHI.
What you need to know:
- Training is a complimentary professional development opportunity.
- Training subscriptions are available until April 30, 2027 – meaning that you will need to complete all training modules before April 30, 2027.
- Only 20 seats are available this year for MSA administrators, and placements will be offered on a first-come first serve-basis.
- Those interested must complete the form below no later than July 31, 2026 and will be granted access shortly thereafter via email instruction.
If physicians are interested in the training, please direct them to quality@doctorsofbc.ca to receive access and instructions for sessional payment (5 hours) upon completion.
Before registering, please recognize that accepting a seat means one fewer opportunity for a physician or other MSA administrator to complete this training. For that reason, it is essential that all participants who register are committed to completing all three training modules.
*Contractor time to participate in training and professional development should not be compensated from Medical Staff Association Facility Engagement budgets. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) outlines certain entitlements under the Employment Insurance Act, Canada Pension Plan, and Income Tax Act for employees versus self-employed workers (i.e. contractors). See here for more information about employment status indicators, including training. As independent contractors, MSA administrators are responsible for the costs of acquiring the necessary training to deliver the needed services for their contracts.

FEMS Tip of the Month
This month, we are promoting the FEMS DIY Workshop from May's Lunch and Learn.
During the session (see recording here), we covered the top 10 most common FEMS questions and answers during a live FEMS demo session.
The questions discussed covered:
- Why hasn’t a physician received payment?
- There is no button to approve this claim.
- I have aligned this person to an EA, but can’t submit a time claim for them.
- FEMS keeps auto-declining similar claims.
- There’s a 2025-26 EA that is still open.
- Fields are being weird.
- I can’t submit my expenses to the correct EA.
- There’s a claim stuck in Payment Queued.
- A physician says they’re already registered for FEMS.
- It looks like claims are stuck in a status.
This session was one of the most well attended and was universally praised for the interaction between the question and the live FEMS demonstration. We highly recommend it for those who were unable to attend, and as a refresher for those who did.

PM Helpdesk Lunch and Learn Library
We’re excited that the FE provincial office and PM Helpdesk Consultant Erica Kjekstad have developed a comprehensive library document featuring all MSA Lunch and Learn sessions from 2022 through 2026. The links are on the e-News and Lunch and Learns tab on the FE website.
The April session is scheduled for Tuesday, June 9, 12-1 pm. Please keep an eye out for the calendar invitation in the coming days.
