Disease-Related Malnutrition - Time for Action

17 July 2024 | 11:00 CEST

Disease-related malnutrition is a commonly underdiagnosed and undertreated condition that affects 30-50% of inpatients. This condition is prevalent in patients with nearly any disease, and older adults, as well as people with noncommunicable diseases, are particularly at risk.

The new factsheet was developed jointly by WHO/Europe and the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN).The measures presented in the fact sheet can save thousands of lives across the WHO European Region daily.

The launch webinar will examine the factsheet's findings and present solutions and actions for policymakers.

UPCOMING WEBINAR

From knowlegde to action: Addressing tobacco cessation in chronic respiratory diseases

11 July 2024 | 14:00 - 15:30 CEST

Chronic respiratory diseases(CRDs), including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pose a significant global health challenge. COPD is the third leading cause of death globally, causing 3.2 million deaths in 2019, while 0.5 million people died from asthma.

Exposure to tobacco smoke, including second-hand smoke, is one of the most important risk factors for CRDs, exacerbating symptoms and accelerating disease progression.

To address this, WHO will launch the Tobacco Knowledge Summaries on asthma and COPD during the webinar. It aims to raise awareness of the tobacco-CRD link and highlight evidence-based strategies and best practices for the early diagnosis, treatment and management of tobacco-related CRD.
