Stormwater drainage Improvement works

Stormwater drainage improvement works are progressing on Mountain View Avenue catchment in Miami and in Ernie Tebb Park.

Flooding has been known to affect roads, buildings and homes in the catchment, and these works are part of extensive drainage improvements planned for the area. This multi-stage upgrade is an important investment in our city's flood resilience.

Stage 6 will be completed across 2 phases:

  • Stage 6A will be delivered by the City of Gold Coast.

  • Stage 6B will be delivered by in conjunction with the light rail works occurring at the same location. These works are expected to take place along Miami Shore Parade and the Gold Coast Highway throughout 2022 and 2023.

Safeguarding koalas & their habitat

There are simple things you can do to help reduce threats and ensure the future of koalas on the Gold Coast.

  • Drive carefully
  • Be a reponsible dog owner
  • Install koala-friendy or koala exclusion fencing
  • Create or restore koala habitat in your backyard
  • Report koala sightings
  • Assess koala health

Alternatively, you can call us on 1300 GOLDCOAST (1300 465 326) or call Wildcare Australia on their 24/7 hotline 07 5527 2444 (if a koala is sick, injured, in danger or deceased).

School zone road rules

Just a reminder to everyone to be mindful of the school zone road rules.

The City of Gold Coast enforces a variety of parking
rules at and around schools to achieve a safer
environment for students.

No parking areas and/or kiss and ride zones
These have been installed at most schools to help parents and carers safely drop off and pick up their children.

For these zones to work effectively, parents and carers need to:

Be timely. If there is no indicated time on the No Parking
sign, you are only permitted to stop for two minutes. If your
child does not enter or exit the vehicle within that time, you
are required to exit the zone and re-enter when your child
is ready.

Not move more than three metres from your vehicle.
For example, a driver may get out of the car, open the boot
and help children with their bags, but they must not move
any further than three metres from their vehicle.

Stop their vehicle as close as possible to the head
of the zone
. This will allow other parents and carers easy
access to the zone
