Weekly update 9 March 2026

Kia ora koutou,

Welcome to our weekly update report. We want to keep you informed of our work and answer your questions. We'll include lodgement queue processing times and volumes.

DTR Sea Project mailbox closure

This notice is to advise that the DTR Sea Project mailbox (DTR@mpi.govt.nz) will be permanently closed on 13 March 2026. DTRs have been mandated for the sea pathway across various groups throughout 2023/24, and all submitters, ports, and shipping lines are now fully onboarded and DTR compliant.

From the closure date, any emails sent to this mailbox will receive an automated response directing users to contact TSW User Support at tswusersupport@customs.govt.nz as part of transitioning to a business-as-usual support model.

Please refer to the DTR Sea Information page on the Customs website, which includes helpful guidance on:

  • submission guides
  • TSW email notifications
  • processes for dangerous goods
  • TSW error and directions guidance
  • when to submit a DTR vs an ITR
  • requirements for shipping lines and port companies
  • TSW electronic notification scenarios
  • DTR FAQs.

Thank you for your support and collaboration throughout the DTR Sea Project.

Kind regards,

DTR Sea Project Team
