6th May 2022A Message from the Head... It was quite the delight this week to attend the first ever Lower Key Stage 2 production, Go for Gold! I must confess to welling up a little at the start - the combination of the sheer joy on the faces of the performers together with their enthusiastic enjoyment of the opening song reminded me of just how much of this kind of thing we have missed over the last two years. What then followed was 45 minutes of fantastic singing, dancing and joke telling coupled with quite a large helping of Greek history! Thanks to all the staff involved in putting such a wonderful production together, in particular Miss Avison, as well as to the pupils for learning their lines, their lyrics and their dance moves and then performing it all with such energy not once, not twice but 3 times! Looking ahead to this weekend we have the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme practice expedition taking place in Wharfedale. 9 of our current Lower 5 pupils will be navigating the valleys and hills of the region, preparing their own food and sleeping under canvas in preparation for the 'real thing' later this term. I can only hope that the weather improves significantly over night for them! ![]() And, having not had one for a few years due to the pandemic, Tuesday sees the return of the Gateways whole school photograph. Pupils will be expected to wear 'winter uniform' please and, as it is Parade Day, our CCF Cadets will be in full uniform for this, the first whole school photograph to be taken since the creation of the Gateways and Horsforth CCF partnership. Details of how copies of the photograph can be purchased will follow in due course - one thing is for sure, this year's photo should prove an interesting contrast to the last one taken! ![]() Also making a triumphant return next week is the eagerly anticipated Lower 3 London Trip! Departing on Wednesday morning and returning on Friday evening, I look forward to hearing all about the shows, the restaurants, the tubes and of course all the walking and the singing that usually accompanies this trip, when they are back in school the following week. I think the staff are looking forward to it all even more than the kids :-) and all of their antics can be followed throughout the trip on Twitter using @gwaysvisit Have a lovely weekend everyone. - Dr Tracy Johnson - Upper 1 and Lower 2 'Go for Gold' ![]() The children in Lower 2 and Upper 1 have been extremely busy preparing for the first ever lower Key Stage 2 production of ‘Go for Gold!’ The progress the children have made since the first few rehearsals has been phenomenal, it has been wonderful to see the children performing again and the confidence has grown across the whole cast. We had an unbelievable dress rehearsal in front of Prep followed by two outstanding performances in front of parents on Wednesday and Thursday this week. The children behaved like true professionals practising their lines, dance routines and even helping to create the props and set. We want to say a huge well done to all the children involved, we are extremely proud of you! You are all superstars! - Miss Avison, Mr Boyle, Mr Arnold and Ms Danby - Pupil news Imogen's TV appearance ![]() Lower 2 pupil Imogen Boyes appeared on the TV programme 'The Yorkshire Vet' earlier this week! One of her guinea pigs (Mini) was very poorly prior to Christmas and ended up being operated on by Julian Norton (one of the Yorkshire Vets) which was filmed by the TV crew. Imogen and her mum also had to be interviewed afterwards. The episode aired at 8pm on Channel 5 on Tuesday May 3rd. We have been informed that Imogen was quite a natural in front of the cameras and is keen to become a vet in the future.
