As we come together after experiencing the impact of ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred and the subsequent flooding, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all service providers, emergency personnel and volunteers for their unwavering support and dedication to our community. This edition includes information and resources to assist the Logan community in disaster recovery, events to add to your calendar and some wonderful opportunities for our young and creative generation! We also want to highlight Harmony Week from March 17th to 23rd, a time to recognise and embrace the rich cultural diversity that makes our community so vibrant. In Logan, 28% of residents were born overseas, and 18% speak a language other than English at home. Let's continue to support each other and build stronger, more cohesive communities. ![]() Recovering from a disaster Recovering after a natural disaster is important for the wellbeing of everyone in our community. We can't stop disasters, but we can take steps to understand the impacts. Helpful information on mental health support, replacing important documents, and cleaning up after a disaster can be found on Council's Recovering from a disaster webpage linked below. There are also resources for young people, including interactive storybooks and games to help children cope. ![]() Disaster Legal Toolkit for NFPs Justice Connect’s Not-for-profit Law program has recently launched a Disaster Legal Toolkit to help not-for-profit organisations navigate legal issues during disasters. These free, easy-to-access resources cover everything from governance and worker safety to insurance and funding. Created by experienced lawyers, these plain language guides will help organisations prepare, respond, and recover, ensuring a safe and resilient community. ![]() Community EventsInspired Creative Projects workshop! 🎨 Delivered by the team from the Regional Arts Services Network, Southern Qld. The Inspired Creative Projects workshop will take you through a project development process, from understanding creative policies, identifying opportunities for you and your community, to project ideas and planning. The workshop will also look into how to structure your budget as well as where to find funding to help you bring your project to life! This workshop is ideal for all community members that are interested in developing a creative, community or tourism project that supports or celebrates their community. Justin is an award-winning mental health advocate and has been a semi-finalist on Australia’s Got Talent. He is also a published poet and a two-time winner of the Logan Heat and Queensland finals of the Australian Poetry Slam. For adults and ages 16+. Bookings required. When: Friday 21 March, 11am to 12:30pm ![]() White Bear Foundation - Leadership Weekend Workshop The White Bear Foundation workshop is designed for children aged 7 to 13 years and teaches more effective social, communication and leadership skills. The workshop is a lot of fun and is held in a safe environment. Children learn how to build their self-esteem, deal with bullying and become more resilient under the umbrella of leadership. What the children learn at the workshop will support them now, through the school years and beyond. ![]() Queensland Philanthropy Awards 2025 – Nominations now openThe awards raise awareness for Queenslanders and Queensland organisations who have made an outstanding contribution to charity or community service. This includes donating time, generating funds, encouraging others to give, and recognise philanthropy that is outstanding in its generosity and exemplifies commitment, inspiration and leadership. With a total pool of $20,000 to be awarded, this program provides funding for projects, events or initiatives that align with at least one of the community investment areas below and support the Greenbank community and surrounding suburbs.
Applications close: 1 May 2025 Round 9 – Litter and Marine Debris Clean Up and Prevention of the Queensland Government’s Community Sustainability Action grants is now open. Grants of up to $50,000 (excluding GST) are available for eligible recipients for on-ground projects to address litter and marine debris in Queensland's environment. Applications are accepted from various eligible organisations, including incorporated associations, registered charities, not-for-profit organisations, Indigenous corporations, tertiary education institutions, and Natural Resource Management bodies. Applications close: 4pm, 27 March 2025 The Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF) is now open. This fund is Queensland’s largest one-off community grants program and distributes approximately $60 million each year to not-for-profit community groups. This funding supports these groups in delivering essential services, recreational activities, and opportunities to enhance the well-being of Queensland communities.
