QLDC Winter Road Report - 25 September 2023

Mōrena everybody and happy Monday 😀

As we begin our week, let's hope that it is less eventful than the last couple of days in our district! ☀️

Temps in the Wakatipu range from -1° to 3°, with the Crown Range at -0.5°, with a road temp of -2.5°. Upper Clutha sits at -2° to 2°. So rug up warm, everyone!❄️

It's pretty cold today, so some windscreens may be frosted over, so make sure you give yours a good clearing before you head off. 🚗

While there are no winter issues impacting our roading network today specifically, we are still cleaning up after last week - you might spot the hard-working road crews who are working on the network cleaning and making repairs to the roads that experienced flooding issues last week. Please slow down at worksites so everyone remains safe. 🛑

Here is an update from the roading team:

  • One Mile roundabout to Sunshine Bay turnoff  is open but speed reduced to 50km because of residual surface dirt.
  • Water off road at Pisa Mooring but traffic management still in place.
  • SH6 closed from Makarora to Haast due to washout at Muddy Creek
  • Lindis Pass dry and clear with -2
  • all other roads clear today.

In good news, all Brecon Street businesses, including Skyline Queenstown, have reopened. The Frankton Trail has reopened, with the area affected by wastewater has been sanitised but some cautionary signage remains in place. 🏬

At the moment the mountain biking tracks in the Ben Lomond Reserve, including the Queenstown Mountain Bike Park, are currently closed to the public. For safety reasons, riders are asked not to attempt to access the trails by gondola or other means. 🚵‍♂️

Part of the Queenstown Cemetery affected by debris has been fenced off and is out of bounds. The remainder is open to the public again.⚰️

That's it from me today. Have a great Monday and mā te wā - see you soon! 👋

DISCLAIMER:  Road conditions during winter can change at any time. Our advice is to always carry chains, slow down and drive to the conditions. We will always do our best to give you the most up-to-date conditions for key commuter roads, but we can't drive every road in the district before 7.00am.  Remember, if it's snowing, this slows us down too and these reports should never replace common sense.
