Happy Women’s Day! Like many of the incredible women we’ve come to know through DDD, we are staying one step ahead of the game by sending out this newsletter a day early, to ensure you can read it on your day off. To make it especially worthwhile, this edition includes heartfelt quotes from some of our female DDD users, as well as thought-provoking statistics on women in South African education.

Exciting news this week is that one of the country’s leading thinkers on the topic of driving innovation and digital transformation through culture – Nicky Verd – will be appearing at this year’s DBE Data Summit, being livestreamed on 18-19 September! She is a show-stopping voice of inspiration, and not to be missed! If you haven’t done so already, diarise 18-19 September in your calendar and keep an eye on future editions of this newsletter for the livestreaming link.

From Florence Nightingale (who revolutionised record keeping and patient data in the 1800s) to Katherine Johnson (the NASA mathematician who calculated the flight path for the moon landing in 1969), history is filled with women who have used data and data science to change our world.

As we celebrate Women’s Day on 9 August, we salute the women and learners who are doing the same for education in South Africa. The following statistics give a sense of the scale of women’s participation in local education, and how achievements have changed in recent years.

  DDD PROGRESS

Since the start of the year the DDD team have implemented various changes to the dashboard and how it works, to help improve overall performance. We are pleased to say that these changes are working as expected. We have also put a monitoring system in place to keep a daily eye on dashboard performance. Recent updates and features to look forward to, include the following:

ATTRITION REPORT IS LIVE
A must-see for principals and circuit managers
  WHERE TO FIND TRENDS
Insights over time grouped on DDD Trends page
  WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT
Role-specific views by end September
After Monday 20 May, the dashboard’s Detail page will look noticeably different, with key entity metrics at the top of the page and everything else grouped together in a series of quick-to-click buttons. This means 95% less scrolling and faster access to the specific info you are looking for. Click below to see what’s changed and how.   Can’t find the table you’re looking for on DDD? Check the Trends page, where insights over time are being grouped to give you a collated view of term-to-term changes. This includes the Report Marks Level Distribution table (previously in the School Achievement Report), which is now on the Trends page in the Achievement section.   Within the next two months officials can expect to see a new landing/home page on the dashboard, that contains quick links to role-specific views for curriculum officials, principals and management. We’ll also be introducing a new school-level Subject Task Marks Report. Watch this space for updates!
