As we embrace Queensland Mental Health Week, we're excited to highlight local events, conversations and activities to raise awareness of the importance of positive mental health and wellbeing in the City of Logan. Queensland Mental Health WeekQueensland Mental Health Week, which runs from 5 October to 13 October, is a timely reminder for the local community to come together and support each other in today’s ever-changing world. This national week aims to raise awareness, encourage social connection and reduce the stigma associated with mental illness. Community StoriesPhase 2 now complete - Meadowbrook Hope StairsUPDATE: The Hope Stairs project, initiated by a passionate community member, brings messages of hope to the Loganlea overpass stairs. This collaborative effort involved various community and health organisations. Launched during Queensland Mental Health Week last year, the project has already had a profound impact, including helping a local man in a dark place find support. We extend heartfelt thanks to all involved for sharing these life-changing messages of hope with our Logan community. Phase 2 of the project was recently completed in August 2024, and now features new lighting and audio messages shared by community members who have experienced the loss or near-loss of a loved one to suicide. Community EventsSilent DiscoAre your 12 to 17-year-olds looking for something new and fun to do for this school holidays? Book them in for a Silent Disco, one of the KRANK School Holiday program activities, where they can switch between 3 music channels on headphones and dance the night away! They can choose to grab their friends, or fly solo, and get ready to bust some moves and make unforgettable memories. When: Wednesday, 25 September 5pm to 8pm Stories from the KitchenJoin us as we enjoy a meal and learn more about local culture! Bring a plate of food and stories from your culture to share at our upcoming community dinner. We also encourage everyone to wear clothes from their culture to the dinner. This is a free community event for the whole family! Register below to book your spot at the dinner table. When: Saturday 29 September 5:30pm to 7:30pm Kultural FusionKarakan's upcoming Kultural Fusion event will be unlike anything else! This Queensland Mental Health Week, join them for an immersive afternoon full of rich culture, community and connection. There will be delicious food from all different cultures, entertaining performances, a variety of fun activities, and much more! Celebrating the theme of "Connections to mental health, community, family/mob, nature, self" there will be fun activities including:
When: Friday, 11 October 10am to 12pm Jimboomba Men's MeetupCommunity gathering for men in the Logan and Scenic Rim areas, with lifestyle and mental health coaches presenting healthy mental health strategies and tips. The event will include a BBQ meal for attendees. A new men’s mental health service for Jimboomba will be launched at the event. When: Friday, 11 October 6pm Connect with Community - Live Music and Sports NightEnvision Spiritual Prosperity Inc. Charity is excited to share their annual Queensland Mental Health Week Event! This is a fun event connecting communities affected by mental health challenges for one night to socialise and enjoy time together with their families. With live performances from local multicultural artists, volleyball, basketball, U-JAM Dance Fitness, junior sports, kids' games and other fun activities, there’s something for every age group! When: Friday, 11 October 6pm to 10pm Resources and OpportunitiesNational Online Launch of the innerBoy AppShe Is Not Your Rehab is a key initiative in New Zealand, which aids men in healing from childhood trauma and managing emotions. In response to the urgent need to tackle high rates of family violence, they developed the innerBoy app, a tool which addresses mental health, trauma and abuse. Through the partnership between She Is Not Your Rehab and DVConnect, the innerBoy app will soon be available in Australia. Join the launch event to learn more about how this innovative app will create safer, more supportive communities. Registrations must be made by 9am, Friday 27 September 2024. When: Monday, 30 September 10am to 11:30am Join Logan Men's TableThe Men's Table is a Charitable Organisation established in 2011 with the vision of Healthy Men, Healthy Masculinities and Healthy Communities. The idea is to create an emotionally safe environment for 12 men to meet monthly for a meal and to talk about their feelings and what is happening in their lives. The first Logan Men's Table has been a great success and is currently full. They are now inviting men to join Logan Men's Table #2 and #3, planned to launch early next year. Each Table is free to join, and men only pay for their own meal. Host your guests, share a meal, start meaningful conversations and help raise funds for those facing anxiety, depression and suicide. Whether hosting a pot-luck lunch at home, decking your office out in blue, or having a picnic in the park, each meal you have can lead to life-saving conversations. Register yourself, workplace or school and receive a free host kit with conversation starters, decorations and more to help you host a Big Blue Table. Council's Grant OpportunitiesRegional Arts Development Fund (RADF)Applications are now open for Round 54 of the Regional Arts Development Fund which supports the development of arts, culture and heritage in Logan. It is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Logan City Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland. Funds are available to support one-off projects. Bookings are required for all sessions. Session 1 Session 2 External Funding OpportunitiesApplications are now open for the Queensland Government's Mental Health and Wellbeing Grants. In 2024-25, Grants are being offered of up to $150,000 (excluding GST) per application, to be expended over a maximum period of 18 months. The grants are designed to build on existing community strengths, abilities, and knowledge to fund innovative, place-based initiatives that meet local needs. This includes providing supports early in life, across the life course and across settings. Applications close: 5pm Thursday 10 October 2024 Expressions of Interest are now open for the Strong and Resilient Communities Activity (SARC) – Community Support – Small Grants for Volunteer Involving Organisations program. Small volunteer involving organisations will be able to apply for grants between $10,000 and $20,000 for one-off, time-limited projects that build volunteer management capability, and help the organisation to support the social and economic participation of vulnerable and disadvantaged people. Expressions of Interest close: 4pm Friday 4 October 2024 Applications are now open for the National Australia Day Council’s (NADC) Australia Day 2025 Community Events Grant program. The program makes grants available to support communities to hold an Australia Day event designed to promote the theme – ‘Reflect. Respect. Celebrate.’ • $10,000 (GST exclusive), to assist eligible event organisers to ensure inclusive Australia Day 2025 events proceed (Base Grant); and • an additional $5,000 (GST exclusive) for events that include significant Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander elements (Additional Grant).
