Community action saves koala

Meet Toro, a furry Cedar Grove resident, who was spotted by Debbie in a tree on her property. Having attended a few of Council's wildlife workshops, Debbie was able to recognise the signs of conjunctivitis in Toro and called Wildcare.

Toro's successful rescue, treatment and release underscore the importance of community action in wildlife protection. If you have spotted a sick or injured koala, please call RSPCA on 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625) or Wildcare on 5527 2444.

ONE SMALL CHANGE, ONE BIG IMPACT

Our planet’s survival depends on the precious link with soil. Each year on the 5 December we celebrate World Soils Day to bring attention to the importance of soil health and raise awareness for the sustainable management of our soil resources.

This year's theme Caring for soils: measure, monitor, manage is a great opportunity to get involved with unearthing the wonders of microbes in our soils. Soils for Science is an Australian-first citizen science project to collect, process and study 100,000 backyard soil samples from across Queensland in the search for the next antibiotic.

So how can you take part? Request a free kit from the Soils for Science team, download the app, collect and register your sample, then send it back to the lab.
