HONORS PROJECT INTEREST SUBMISSION
Due this Friday
October 6th
Students are encouraged to submit their ideas for an honors project (for extra credit) by this Friday. Honors projects are not required, they are an opportunity for students to explore their passions in their own way. The honors program at Wasatch Academy gives students the opportunity to create their own learning challenge. They are encouraged to take a personal education interest to the next level by designing their own project on that topic. They develop their project proposal and collaborate with peers, faculty, mentors, and experts beyond their school community. A well-developed honors project often changes and evolves as students follow their research and learn about what is possible or curious. Final projects are presented to an authentic and informed audience.
Welcome to College Counseling!
College counseling at Wasatch Academy begins in the ninth grade and proceeds through group and individual counseling with increasing individual attention to the college process in the junior and senior years. The goal is to have all pieces of the application process in place by the fall of the senior year, supporting more well-developed submissions. The college counseling program includes guidance in exploring college/university choices, applying for scholarships/financial aid, engaging in challenging summer programs, choosing recommenders, and meeting all deadlines for regular and special programs. Students receive extensive personalized attention throughout the college application process, and we welcome family partnerships to better support your student. General timeline: - 8th grade: spring meeting focused on the transition to high school.
- 9th grade: one meeting each trimester where we introduce the importance of exploring curiosities and how that may relate to college and career opportunities.
- 10th grade: one meeting each trimester in which we continue to encourage personal development and begin to focus on the importance of college and career readiness.
- 11th grade: class meetings each trimester which include a transcript review, preparation for spring testing, and then individual meetings with their college counselor.
- 12th grade: Senior Seminar in trimester one is a dedicated class during the academic schedule to focus on all aspects of the college application process and other post-secondary plans. Individual meetings continue throughout the year.
