Junior School NoticesTerm 2 Week 2
Dear valued member of the PLC community, At PLC, the House Points Reward System is an integral part of our pastoral care approach and develops a sense of belonging in our school community. Students may earn House Points in a variety of ways from in-class learning or demonstrating safe and inclusive playground
behaviour, to any other behaviours which personify the Learner Profile Attributes and our PLC Values: Integrity, Learning, Community, and Effort. Working with our students, staff have developed a positive reward system that outlines the allocation and distribution of House Points, and this is implemented daily to reinforce responsible behaviour. Last term, staff also reviewed the Student Code of Conduct and the Bullying Policy and developed a suite of documents to support our
Responsible Student Behaviour Policy. Version 1 of these documents are outlined in the link below.
Kindergarten Afternoon TeaOur Kindergarten parents enjoyed an afternoon tea on Tuesday getting to know Ms Kristen Gray, our newly appointed Kindergarten teacher and Ms Georgie James, our newly appointed Education Assistant, now working alongside Mrs Fiona McAlwey. It was lovely for this year group to spend time together. Little Learners Love LiteracyThis week, our Early Years staff attended a two-day intensive workshop at Dyslexia-SPELD Foundation (DSF) to upskill on a new literacy programme called Little Learners Love Literacy for Kindergarten to Year 2 students. This programme will be gradually released during the remainder of the year along with many new reading resources. This programme fits perfectly under the Science of Reading research.
Ecumenical Service Our Year 6 Student Leaders attended a special Ecumenical Service at MLC on Tuesday 2 May. The students displayed exemplary behaviour and were such a pleasure to take to this special IPSHA Harmony Service.
Teddy Bears PicnicWe were thrilled to host a special Teddy Bears Picnic for our Kindergarten and Pre-Primary students and were joined by our friends from Scotch College. The students enjoyed a variety of activities and so did their teddies! It was wonderful to see all the children playing together.
Kind regards, Geraldine Drabble

Soundwaves Spelling ProgrammeThis week the Years 2 – 6 classes were introduced to the Soundwaves Spelling Programme. This programme is a comprehensive and interactive system designed to help students learn to spell and to assess their progress. The programme employs a unique and systematic approach to teaching spelling, which is based on the Soundwaves principles of auditory, visual, and kinaesthetic learning. The students do not rote learn lists of words, rather learn spellings by hearing and seeing the sounds and words, and then applying the spelling rules to spell them correctly. The
Soundwaves Spelling Programme recommends that students are assessed every 4 – 5 weeks, on a selection of sounds that they have covered over that period. The online platform provides students with interactive activities, assessments, and resources to support and reinforce their learnings. The online platform can be used at home and is designed to be user-friendly and engaging, allowing students to learn in a fun and effective way. A compulsory subscription to Soundwaves for $13 will be charged to your school account in your next bill.
