It's time to scale up efforts to translate political commitments into action.

Here at UHC2030, 2024 got off to a busy start, with the development of a new Strategic Framework to guide our work for the next three years, an updated approach to tracking action on commitment, and the launch of an election advocacy campaign — to name just a few! We have also been hard at work preparing the upcoming World Health Assembly and promoting the resolution on social participation.

During its meeting on 25–26 April 2024, the UHC2030 Steering Committee welcomed its new co-chairs and endorsed the new 2024–2027 Strategic Framework. Read on to find out how we are proposing to harness the power of UHC2030's constituencies and entities to accelerate progress towards universal health coverage (UHC) and health security.

Advocacy, accountability and alignment: our pathways to translate global commitments into country action in 2024–2027

Progress towards achieving UHC is far off track, with 4.5 billion people — more than half of the world’s population — not fully covered by essential health services, and 2 billion people experiencing financial hardship due to out-of-pocket health costs. This is unacceptable, and we must ramp up action urgently.

Our 2024–2027 Strategic Framework outlines how UHC2030 collectively operates and adds value, now, on the path towards the next UN high-level meeting on UHC in 2027, and in the last stretch before the 2030 milestone for the SDGs.

Every year, WHO Member States come together to agree on WHO leadership, priorities, budgets and policies. This year's World Health Assembly (WHA) is taking place in Geneva, Switzerland from 27 May through 1 June 2024.

This WHA, UHC2030 is focusing on the resolution on Social participation for universal health coverage, health and well-being, election advocacy, and building gender-responsive health systems for UHC.

Visit our event page for details. To engage in our social participation campaign, follow us on X and LinkedIn and use the Civil Society Engagement Mechanism's (CSEM's) toolkit!

Getting UHC on the ballot

Election advocacy guide cover with title

By consistently engaging in the electoral process, UHC advocates can influence the selection of policymakers who are committed to prioritizing the fundamental right to health. Sustained engagement also fosters a culture where healthcare is a recurring and prioritized electoral issue.

That is why, earlier this year, UHC2030 and the CSEM developed the Election advocacy guide. This tool provides guidance for UHC advocates wishing to influence the elections taking place in their countries. The guide now features an interactive map of elections taking place around the world.
