Click here 31 July 2025![]() Cr John-Paul Baladi, Mayor of Strathfield Dear Residents, A big thank you to those who joined Council for this year's National Tree Day event on Sunday at Bressington Park. It is always wonderful to see members of our community rolling up their sleeves to take part in a national nature care event. Homelessness Week takes place 4 - 10 August 2025 so Council is once again putting a call out to our community to participate in our annual homelessness food appeal. Collection points have been set up at Strathfield Council's Customer Service Centre and at Strathfield Council Library & Innovation Hub until Tuesday 12 August 2025. Preferred items include: cereal, long life full cream milk, rice, tins of corn beef and tuna, dry noodles, biscuits and tinned vegetables. All donations will be given to Council's charity partners, St Paul’s Church and St Merkorious Charity. As always, if you have a local concern or idea you’d like to share, you can reach me on 0478 054 241 or at cr.jpbaladi@strathfield.nsw.gov.au. 34th Anniversary of the Strathfield Massacre Commemoration Join Strathfield Council and Cumberland RSL Sub-branch in Strathfield Square on Thursday 14th August 2025 to honour the seven victims of the of the tragic events that unfolded on 17 August 1991, The Strathfield Massacre. This memorial offers an opportunity for quiet reflection, remembrance, and support. All are welcome to attend. New art exhibition Verdure - luminous beings: Liam Benson is now open! ✨ Liam Benson is a multi-disciplinary socially engaged artist based on Dharug Land, Western Sydney, New South Wales. Incorporating performance, photography, video and textiles, his practice reflects on the exchange within identity and culture as a living dualistic process which is both informed by and challenges historical, political, and social consciousness. THROWBACK THURSDAY Strathfield Local Studies Alderman William Herrick Brother William Herrick, a founding member of the Homebush Lodge of the United Ancient Order of Druids, was also an alderman of Homebush Council from 1917 until his sudden death in May 1924. Tragically he fell over a culvert, landing face down in the creek under Parramatta Road, Flemington, drowning in the mud. The Homebush UAOD Lodge, formed on 29 January 1907, met at the Homebush School of Arts, providing social and financial support for members and their families facing sickness or death. Herrick was employed by Arnott’s Biscuits and lived at Eastfield on Parramatta Road near Crane Street.
