The Powells Creek Bridge and Hudson District Park Stage 2 projects were proudly funded by the NSW Government under the Parramatta Road Urban Amenity Improvement Program and NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program respectively. I was delighted to witness the start of Council’s street tree maintenance program on Monday 20 February at Ismay Avenue. Council has engaged Summit Open Space Services as the main contractor for this program. Tree pruning has been raised numerous times by local residents and I am glad to see a pro-active schedule being rolled out as a result of addressing this feedback. This program will be around for a long while and I will be following its progression very closely. I also attended a tree planting event at Marie Bashir Public School, who installed three mature trees as part of their environmental education program, Enviro Squad, and to increase shade in their school grounds. The data captured in this program will be used to assist Council on its future management decisions for the Urban Forest. All plant material that is pruned will be mulched and recycled in various Council parks. The program will run over a 3-year period and will be reviewed at its completion for future programs.
