Guide for Respectful Indigenous Engagement

We are pleased to share with you the new Doctors of BC Guide for Respectful Indigenous Engagement to support divisions, MSAs, and physician members in their work with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit.

This guide also includes the most current recommended honoraria rates as of September 2024, and can be shared widely with any MSA members or other partners.

FEMS Tip of the Month

Do you ever wonder what the different types of users are in FEMS and what their permission levels allow them to do?

Facility Engagement Staff:

  • Maintain and support MSA funding and the FEMS system.
  • Work with individual MSAs on engagement work within and among the MSAs.
  • Facilitate regional engagement work among MSAs within a health authority region.
  • Can approve claims and expenses in FEMS.

MSA Administrators:

  • Manage engagement activities and budgets.
  • Assign members to engagement activities.
  • Submit claims and expenses and assist with member claims and expenses.
  • Assist with the registration of new members.
  • Can approve claims and expenses in FEMS up to $3,000.

Executives:

  • Directors of and involved in the governance of the MSA.
  • Approve intake of engagement activities and budgets.
  • Liaison and management of administrators.
  • Representatives of greater MSA membership.
  • Can approve claims and expenses in FEMS.

Participants:

  • An MSA member assigned to an engagement activity.
  • Can submit sessional claims and expenses against engagement activities.

Member:

  • MSA member registered to participate in Facility Engagement work.

Knowledge-Sharing Highlights

Check out the following 60-second story and resources on demystifying health authority purchasing:

  • Read about Langley Memorial Hospital (LMH) and Fraser Health’s education session here.
  • The session increased participants' understanding of how equipment gets prioritized and what they can influence when it comes to equipment purchase requests.
  • Thirty participants from various departments, including the MSA, LMH Foundation, LMH Auxiliary, BioMed, and Fraser Health, heard from a panel of speakers about capital purchasing processes.
  • You can find an especially helpful infographic on how medical staff can make purchase requests to adapt to reflect your own facility/health authority here.

We’re excited that the FE provincial office and PM Helpdesk Consultant Erica Kjekstad have developed a comprehensive library document featuring all MSA Lunch and Learn sessions from 2022 through 2025. The links are on the provincial webinars tab on the FE website.

In Case You Missed It - July

In case you might have missed it, the Facility Engagement provincial office released the following information to MSAs in July 2025:

  • MSAs 2024/25 Annual Report (AR) report submissions have been compiled and analyzed, with key themes from across the province now published on the FE knowledge-sharing portal. To check out and share these findings with your facility, click here.
