📅 B.C. Open Education Community Meeting - April

April 17, 2024 | 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.

The newly formed B.C. Open Education Community (BCOEC) welcomes members from the post-secondary sector in British Columbia and the Yukon. This community convenes monthly in virtual gatherings, fostering an environment for sharing insights, providing support, and engaging in discussions about the challenges, best practices, and current issues in open education. Join us for this series of meetings intended to create community and conversation.

    📅 FLO Friday: An Introduction to the B.C. Digital Literacy Framework

    April 19, 2024 | 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

    This Facilitating Learning Online (FLO) Friday workshop is designed to introduce participants to the foundations of the B.C. Post-Secondary Digital Literacy Framework and to provide an overview of the B.C. Digital Literacy Hub.

      📅 FLO MicroCourse: An Introduction to the B.C. Digital Literacy Framework

      April 22-26, 2024

      This one-week Facilitating Learning Online (FLO) MicroCourse is designed for post-secondary instructors, trainers, and teachers who want to explore the B.C. Digital Literacy Framework and integrate it into their educational practices. The course aims to generate awareness of the framework and empower educators to enhance digital literacy skills in their students.

        📅 ETUG Spring Workshop - Digital Literacy Today: Celebrating 30 Years of Educational Transformation

        May 9-10, 2024 

        The ETUG spring workshop will explore the interaction between our educational ecosystem and the various technologies driving change. The focus will be on practical issues, solutions, and real technology-related challenges facing post-secondary education. 

        The event will be held in person at Simon Fraser University’s Harbour Centre in Vancouver, B.C., with a livestream option. A mixer will be held on the evening of May 9 at the Butcher & Bullock.

          📅 BCcampus Regional Roadshow

          June 10-18, 2024 | Kelowna, Kamloops, and Castlegar 

          This spring, BCcampus is hitting the road and heading to regional institutions in the province. In June, we will be visiting a handful of B.C.’s post-secondary institutions to explore current themes in post-secondary teaching and learning.

          Each stop on the BCcampus Regional Roadshow will offer a tailored selection of workshops, sessions, and topics delivered in our signature style of caring, inclusive, and fun learning spaces.

          Join us at:

          • Okanagan College, June 10-11, 2024
          • Thompson Rivers University, June 13-14, 2024
          • Selkirk College, June 17-18, 2024

          Registration is free and open to all members of B.C. and Yukon PSIs.

            BCcampus was thrilled to sponsor 10 Open Education Week events this year, including Camosun College's Open Education Recognition Awards. Emily Schudel, from the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, shares her observations on the event and the award recipients.

            📘 BCcampus Launches an Open Education Support Community

            We are excited to announce the creation of a new open education network: The B.C. Open Education Community (BCOEC). The group will bring people together from across the province to discuss a variety of topics including methods for supporting open education initiatives at institutions, common challenges, and strategies for peer support.

            📘 2024 Pan-Canadian Digital Learning Survey

            We invite you to participate in the 2024 Spring Pan-Canadian Digital Learning Survey (formerly the National Survey of Online and Digital Learning) conducted by the Canadian Digital Learning Research Association. The survey will ask you to share your personal perspective and will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

            The purpose of the project is to explore key issues in digital learning and to provide recommendations for improving digital learning at publicly funded post-secondary institutions in Canada. 

            Please complete and submit the survey by May 31, 2024.

            💻 Call for Proposals: ETUG Spring 2024 Workshop – Digital Literacy Today: Celebrating 30 Years of Educational Transformation

            ETUG is accepting proposals for event presenters for their upcoming spring workshop on May 9-10, 2024. 

            Proposals should aim to address one or more of the following questions:

            • What trends in student demographics and expectations are you observing? How do these trends inform, or relate to, changes in educational technology?
            • What expectations are there for technology use in the workplace? How are these expectations informing program content and delivery?
            • How are institutions supporting the delivery of online, hybrid, and in-person classes?
            • How do you accommodate different learning styles and abilities when integrating digital literacy into your lessons? 
            • Are there specific strategies you use to ensure inclusivity in digital literacy education?
            • How do you share successful practices and lessons learned with your colleagues?
            • What challenges do you face in incorporating digital literacy into your teaching?
            • How do you overcome these challenges, and are there any innovative solutions you have implemented?

            The deadline to submit is April 5, 2024.

            💻 Equity Sequence: Building Equality Better 

            In partnership with the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills, BCcampus is offering free access to Equity Sequence training to anyone in the public B.C. post-secondary sector. Space is limited and provided on a first-come, first-served basis. 

            The Equity Sequence training takes place in an online, gamified learning platform and community. The learner encounters informative video content, engages in self-reflection and sharing with the community, and puts their new skill to use on case studies before applying the Equity Sequence to their own work.

            💻 Expression of Interest: EdTech Sandbox 2024-2025 Leader

            We invite expressions of interest from educators, educational technology developers, and learning designers from B.C.’s public post-secondary institutions to lead a session in the EdTech Sandbox Series.  

            The focus areas for 2024-2025 include:

            1. The AI Sandbox: A space dedicated to experimenting with and reviewing artificial intelligence (AI)-based learning technologies.  
            2. The No-Go EdTech Sandbox: A space aimed at examining learning technologies that educators, students, and staff should avoid using in teaching and learning, and why.  

            Please complete the application form by May 31, 2024.
