New Harness Racing procedures implemented

New starting procedure - effective 2 June 2022

Consultation with trainers and drivers and the Breeders Owners Trainers Reinspersons Association (BOTRA) , the procedure for marshalling behind the mobile at the start of harness races has been changed.

The marshalling circle behind the mobile will now circle in a clockwise direction as opposed to an anti-clockwise direction.

Horses will now peel from the inside of the track, improving the angle of the horses leaving the pre-race circle and ensuring that the start is more fluid.

The same order of horse numbers peeling from the circle will remain the same. QRIC Stewards have successfully trialled the new starting procedure in recent weeks and it will now be implemented at all registered races from 2 June 2022.

Fly Veils now allowed in wet conditions

Fly veils can now be used in wet conditions. QRIC stewards have made the decision to allow the use of Fly Veils for the continuity and consistency of racing performance in wet conditions.

The use of fly veils was previously banned in wet track conditions when mudguards and splash sheets were directed for use.

However after consultation with interstate jurisdictions and trainers, QRIC Stewards are satisfied there are no safety concerns with the use of Fly Veils in wet conditions and their use is now approved from 2 June 2022.
