This year's theme was chosen to highlight to students the exciting journey that they are on right now - and well into the future - whereby they can become anything they want to be… with official bilingualism helping them to get there! This was further showcased with a presentation by Chris Hadfield to grades 4-12 students and a performance by Will's Jams for kindergarten to grade 3 classes. Both the presentation and performance had tremendous participation by Saskatchewan schools. There were more than 12,853 students and 595 staff registered for both events! There were 297+ classes from 61 schools with 6,916 student and about 300 staff registered for the Chris Hadfield presentation. For the Will's Jams performance, there were more than 268 classes from 52 school with 5,937 students and 295 staff registered. Schools that registered for the Chris Hadfield presentation included:

We also extend our gratitude to our funders. Merci beaucoup!~ Many schools also held activities in addition to the presentation and performance already mentioned. Here is a summary of the activities organized by some of the participating schools: Carlton Comprehensive High School, Prince Albert Students played French cultural trivia and listened to French comedians. They went sledding and snowshoeing, and enjoyed hot chocolate, croissants and maple donuts! ~
Central Collegiate Institute, Moose Jaw Students competed in a snowman building contest and enjoyed crêpes. ~
École Lumsden Elementary School, Lumsden National Literacy Day took place during FSL Education Week with students taking part in story reading. ~
École St. Thomas, Lloydminster École St. Thomas virtually hosted two authors for National Literacy Day. Students also took part in Carnaval with an appearance by Bonhomme Carnaval, making snow sculptures and ice castles, trying La Tire, playing wooden spoons and drums, writing Slam poetry, and dancing. ~
École Monseigneur Blaise Morand, North Battleford Each day of the week was a different Spirit Day where students dressed up for that day's theme. The whole school participated in a freeze video. Classes created and shared French tongue twisters and some classes created magnets with French phrases. Students could have their photo taken at the space0-themed photo booth with students writing their dream for their future. ~
École St. Pius X School, Regina Each day French music was played over the intercom for the entire school. Each class watched a French movie. Students played virtual games in French. There was a French liturgy. The school held a Spirit Day where students dressed like a lumberjack. A Winter Carnaval was hosted for students. ~
École Vickers School, Prince Albert Students made friendship bracelets in the style of the Métis sash. Many classes took advantage of the wild weather and went snowshoeing. Grade 8 students learned a new recipe and prepared crêpes. Students enjoyed traditional Québécois music and played along on wooden spoons. ~
École Alvin Buckwold School, Saskatoon The school hosted a Spirit Day where students dressed up as their favourite French character or person. Some classes recorded themselves singing French songs that were shared in a virtual assembly. Bonhomme Carnaval made a visit to the school. The entire school, including English classes, played French Bingo over Zoom. Many classes learned about francophone artists and made art in their styles. The school composed a collaborative story where each classes wrote a few sentences. The story was then shared at the virtual assembly. Each day French music was played over the intercom for the entire school to enjoy. ~
École Arthur Pechey School, Prince Albert A bulletin board about the theme was created. A star was added from each student saying what they want to be when they are older or why they enjoy learning French. All students, even those in English classes, got to enjoy maple-flavoured snowcones. Students got to play virtual Bingo with the Superintendent of the school division. Students also played French Board Games and went skating. ~ École St. Michael's School, Yorkton Many outdoor activities were held for students. Some classes learned about how maple syrup is made while others learned about the role of les voyageurs. 'Reading buddies' activities were held where older grades partnered with younger grades to read stories. ~ Sacred Heart High School, Yorkton Students wrote notes to educators who have helped them reach their dreams. French music was played over the school's intercom. Students held a music tournament to determine the top francophone song of 2022. Grade 9 students created their own music videos to a famous French song. Students wrote biographies of important Black French leaders to coincide with Black History Month. ~
École Dundonald School, Saskatoon ~
École St. Margaret School, Moose Jaw The school hosted a different Spirit Day each day of the week. A school-wide game of Bingo was played. Director of Education Mr. Ward Strueby and Superintendent Mme. Sarah Phipps visited the school and took part in various classroom activities. Many classes participated in outdoor activities including skiing, skating, sledding, and snowshoeing. Students played Kin-Ball as part of physical education classes. ~ Canadian Parents for French - Saskatchewan would like to extend a sincere thank you to all students, teachers, parents, and administrators who participated in FSL Education Week 2022. The enthusiasm shown and varied activities organized demonstrated a tremendously supportive culture in the school for FSL learning. It also showed the enormous fun had by all. Well done everyone!
