Dear friend, Lately, many of us have been reflecting on the subscriptions we keep and which ones truly align with our values. At Lift UP, we invite you to join a different kind of subscription: one that nourishes your neighbors and strengthens community. That commitment matters more than ever. Hunger relief in Oregon is under strain due to federal cuts and food supply challenges. Recently, Oregon Food Bank made the difficult decision to close our Free Food Market at Legacy Emanuel Hospital. The Free Food Market was a welcoming, farmers market–style program open to the general public. Neighbors could choose from fresh produce and shelf-stable items in a community-centered setting. Although its closure is disappointing, it also highlights how vital local, community-driven support remains. When larger systems shift, community action ensures our neighbors still have access to healthy, nourishing food.
Staff and Volunteers Working the Last Day of Free Food Market This year, our Root Partner Food Drive is focused on securing three staple items our neighbors ask for most: nut butter, shelf-stable milk, and canned soup. These high-demand foods are protein-rich, versatile, and shelf-friendly, making them true pantry heroes. That's why we're asking you to “Subscribe for Good” to support our Root Partner Food Drive. Think Netflix, but instead of streaming shows, you’re streaming meals into homes across Portland
Every subscription sustains Preston's Pantry, fuels home-delivered groceries in nearly 50 affordable housing buildings, and helps Lift UP serve over 33,000 neighbors each year, nearly half of whom are seniors and two-thirds living with a disability. Prefer a one-time gift? $25 fuels 17 meals for neighbors. “Because food is so expensive, without Lift UP I wouldn’t be able to afford to eat. I receive only about $60 from food stamps, and groceries for my grandkids cost nearly $700 last month. Lift UP helps me feed them and keeps me from going into debt.” Want to host a food drive around nut butter, shelf-stable milk, or canned soup? Contact CaSaundra Johnson, Development Manager, at casaundra@lifturbanportland.org to get your drive on the books.
