Throughout June, we'll be sharing some awesome 'random acts of green' that you can do at home or while out in nature. It's all about making a positive impact on our environment, one step at a time! Koala-lity teacher resourcesAre you a teacher looking to inspire students to form a deeper connection with koalas and their natural habitats? The Department of Environment, Science and Innovation has developed free teacher packs to help educators on their koala education journey. These packs can be used in any bushland or why not visit Daisy Hill Koala Centre. EVENTS & ACTIVITIESLeap into Frogs Habitat Workshop - 4 MayJoin us for this hands-on workshop to learn all about our native frogs and what you can do to help them in your garden! This workshop, that both kids and adults will thoroughly enjoy, includes an introductory presentation that will help you to identify your hopping friends and learn all about their specific needs. You’ll also be guided through how to make a frog hotel for your own outdoor space! Registrations required for all attendees - spaces are limited. Nest box Building Workshop - 18 MayAlthough most of us live in urban environments, we share those spaces with lots of native wildlife! This workshop will provide up to 20 families with the wood to construct your own nest box that you can then put up at home in your garden. You will be guided in how to build your nestbox and how to select a suitable location for it where it will be suitable for native wildlife. Registrations required for all attendees - spaces are limited. Leave It Dog Training Sessions - multiple datesTo keep our dogs and native wildlife safe, join us at one of the free training sessions. Learn how to teach your dog two of the most important skills for wildlife avoidance; how to have a perfect recall and leave it cue. 🦮 15 May, 7.30-8.45am at Logan Village Registrations required - spaces are limited. The training will be the same at each session, so we recommend only registering for one training session. Bushwalking - 25 MayCome along for a relaxing nature walk while taking photos on your smartphone to discover the natural wonders of Logan’s Parks and Bushland Reserves. Registrations required - an Active and Healthy participant form is required. FREE TREESDid you know you can get frees trees every financial year with your rates? There are only a few dates left to collect three plants for your garden. So why not start composting at your house during International Compost Awareness Week! Each year, communities from around the world are encouraged to discover the importance and promote the use of compost to help build healthier soils. If you're a Logan resident, you may be eligible for a $50 rebate when you purchase an organic recycling system for your home - it could be a compost bin, worm farm or bokashi.
