Hi everyone,
It is almost 5 months since our October AGM and the committee wanted to let you know what we have been up to.
1. Clubhouse Redevelopment
After 10 long years of hard work by countless committee members, it seems we are finally gaining traction with the development set to commence later this year.
EMTC is very grateful to Council for all the work they have done to move forward with the development. They have engaged a design firm and we have had been provided with preliminary plans for a single-story clubhouse utilising a very similar footprint to the existing building.
The plan includes several enhancements required to bring it to modern standards including upgraded toilets and shower facilities including for those with disability, relocating Future’s office to a more prominent location at the front of the building and providing much needed additional space for them to expand their pro-shop.
Given Futures coach hundreds of students each week, it makes sense that they are located closer to their customers.
We are aware that the empty pool area is an eyesore, and so we are happy that council has agreed to develop this area. One option being considered is add pickleball to our offering.
Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports and we are excited that this may bring new members to our club to play this game. At this stage the plan incorporates one court, however we are investigating options for a minimum of two courts.
In addition to developing the existing building, Council is keen to agree to a master plan for the site for the longer term. Exciting for members is the Council vision of adding two additional courts; courts 11 and 12 would be located beside the current court 10.
When Council sends us the final plans we will place them on the noticeboard.
2. Admin officer update
Lita has advised of her resignation and will be finishing up shortly. In the interim, core tasks will be fulfilled by committee members, as we look at longer term options to cover the responsibilities. Any members who are interested in applying for the position or volunteering to help in the short or long term, please reach out to Danielle Whibley feedback@eastmalverntc.com.au
The Committee would like to thank Lita for all her work over the past years since starting in June 2021 and are pleased that we will still see her around the club as a regular member.
3. Around the Club
We are engaging a new cleaning contractor who will be taking care of our building three times a week. We appreciate our members cleaning up after themselves when they leave the club!
Competition continues to grow with a record number of teams enjoying our fabulous club.
We are reviewing the format for Club Champs which will be held later this year to make it easier for people to participate. More information will be shared in the coming months, but we would like to encourage all members to join this club event.
Great to see our umbrella being used, but if you do open it, could you please also close it as it has just had major repairs after being left up on a windy day.
Vale Kerrie Ready
We were saddened to hear of the passing of Kerrie recently. Kerrie was a member of our club for over 20 years playing mid-week competition and most recently captaining our Wednesday team and winning the premiership in December 2022. Kerrie was a beautiful, gentle soul and will be sorely missed.
As always, we love to hear from our members – please send your thoughts and ideas to feedback@eastmalverntc.com.au.
