Greetings from the Dean’s Office!

This week marks the beginning of the spring semester, an exciting time of the year as seniors complete their capstone projects and prepare for graduation. We Are Wilkinson extends a special welcome to our new transfer and first-year students, who will soon discover why we fondly refer to Wilkinson as “the heart and soul of Chapman University.” This issue contains news of exciting milestones for the college and special events planned for alumni and parents in February.

Poets Gather to Celebrate TAB's 10th Anniversary Milestone

Tabula Poetica, the Center for Poetry at Chapman University, has made a name for itself hosting more than 50 poets over the last ten years and launching TAB: The Journal of Poetry & Poetics. In December, the Poetry Center celebrated a milestone anniversary, turning 10 years old.

The Center for Creative and Cultural Industries Celebrate Grand Opening

Wilkinson College’s Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) program has a space to officially call "home." The CCI program, launched in Fall 2015, recently celebrated the grand opening of its center, located at 428 N. Glassell Street.

A new partnership with The Catalina Island Museum will provide exciting new opportunities for students to research the island’s history, design exhibitions and visitor materials, and craft a marketing and publicity plan for the museum.

Wilkinson College sends students to different professional conferences around the country throughout their time at Chapman. Investigating Careers Back Home in the Aloha State

Over the January Interterm, Wilkinson College Career Advisor Erin Berthon organized excursions for Wilkinson students from Hawaii to explore career opportunities in the arts, humanities, and social sciences on the islands. Saving Endangered Indigenous Languages

Keeping indigenous languages alive and encouraging young people to continue speaking their native languages are the challenges at the center of Dr. Pilar Valezuela's research. A professor in the Department of World Languages and Cultures, Dr. Valenzuela recently traveled to the Peruvian Amazon and spoke about her research during Intercultural Bilingual Education Week at the Indigenous University Nopoki.

February 13

The pregame tailgate begins at 5:30 p.m. in the south Honda Center parking lot. Attendees will be able to pick up their complimentary beanies, visit the Wilkinson College table, enjoy music and games and even get a picture with Pete the Panther.

February 21-22

Parent Spring Summit is designed to give parents the information most relevant to their student's stage in college. Individual sessions are offered to give insight on class experiences. Be sure to check out Dr. Georgiana Bostean's (Sociology) Master Class on Smoke and Mirrors: The Rise of Vaping Among U.S. Youth, Saturday at 10 a.m. and join the Dean Jennifer Keene in a lunchtime chat with a special presentation by Wilkinson's Career Advisor at 12 p.m.

R. Joseph Huddleston ('11, BA Peace Studies, BA Sociology) is an Assistant Professor in the School of Diplomacy at Seton Hall University. Dr. Huddleston teaches Middle Eastern and North African politics and research methodology.

Kyle Whatnall ('16, BA Spanish, BA Strategic & Corporate Communication) is working at Brener Zwikel & Associates Sports Public Relations and Marketing as an Account Executive.
