Greetings, Dear friend:

Early July from my garden, I began plucking organic red rose petals, just at their peak maturation for sun-drying, and soon to store in clean glass jars away from light. Organic rose petals are sweet, cooling, subtle and have an affinity for the positive heart.

Consider these properties for using them appropriately for teas, potpourris, amulets, confetti, blessingway or proposal celebrations, spritzers, tub baths or any uplifting purpose. Rose scent invokes self-confidence, compas-sion, forgiveness and of course romance. What are your favourite uses for organic rose petals?

Each day the garden reveals something fresh and enlivening. Spearmint patch is maturing and I’m thinking ahead to its harvest, timed as the sweet blooms mature. Homegrown organic summertime herbals make such lovely wintertime gifts.

St. John’s Wort is beginning to flower along the north entrance, with stunning yellow blooms. This year the two volunteer (squirrel-planted) walnut trees are now over six feet tall, and may well give their first nuts! The three hazelnut trees leave their nuts in abundance, to feed first the local critters, leaving plenty for us two-leggeds!

The most spectacular area of my garden is the Concord grapevine, which again this year is off to an amazing yield! Stay tuned. . . . Plenty of tending to do meanwhile, along with hosting these opportunities in Ayurveda. Pass these on to those who may benefit from this newsletter, OK? Thank you!

REPRINT: Question & Answer from Facebook
June, 2019

From Chetana Karla Shakti of
https://www.facebook.com/gratefulsurfyoga/
In response to a colleague’s recent enquiry about the relationship between addictive behaviours and dopamine:

“… the question is, how to keep the brain floating peacefully and dopamine-like, and if not, how to ride it out. Going to put that out to the hive mind. experience? views anyone?”

Here is my reply with recent edits:

Yes, the triad of these neurotransmitters: serotonin (more pitta-like), melatonin (more kapha-like) and dopamine (more vata-like) function well when in synch together, so their cycles dominate during their own natural times of day and night.

For example, so-called 'Bi-Polar' disorder, is associated with chronic sleep disturbance. Pills will not remove the causes, nor even the effects. Sleeping late can slowly lead to many psycho-spiritual 'diseases'. Arising early leads to sleeping early. Positive shifts occur within a few days of avoiding daytime sleeping.

Restoring healthy evening and morning routines, cultivated with the support of meditation, can help normalize this neuro-transmitter tripod, once disturbed. Regular meditation practice is the proven method of rejuvenating one's mind, to be alert in the morning, sleepy at bedtime and enjoying each day. Worry thieves away contentment and has not yet solved any human dilemma.

Pranayama, herbs and a support system can help very much to recover normal dopamine cycles. One must be present and compassionately aware of unresolved, uncomfortable feelings until they morph into solutions, which happens by itself simply be being present to now while breathing peacefully, fully and deeply, with awareness, compassion
and intention.

Contentment (santosh) comes with balanced dopamine, in relation to all other related natural cycles. Help someone each day and feel joy, without the expectation that tomorrow's donation also brings happiness. Yes, the daily meditation is a gratitude practice; cause becomes the effect. So, enquire carefully about cause and effect.

Neuro-transmitter secretion is an effect. The cause is found in qualitative thinking, according to the Samkhya creation model of Yoga & Ayurveda.

A brief glimpse into a very large topic. I hope this helps.
