Senior School NoticesTERM 1 WEEK 7
From the Head of Senior School
PLC v Scotch NetballOn Friday, our Student Leaders versed their counterparts from Scotch College for the annual Leaders' Netball Match. Players swapped clothes before competing in a fierce battle in the Hugh Baird Sports Centre with the majority of the Senior School students watching on and cheering. Unfortunately, Scotch proved too good this year and the boys came away with the win but well done to each student for giving their personal best and for making that Lunchtime a very
entertaining one.
Reclaim the Void ProjectReclaim the Void was born from Ngalia elders in Leonora, WA expressing their pain and grief at ‘those gaping mine holes left all over country’. The idea was conceived to symbolically ‘seal’ one of the holes with an artwork expressing the story of country. The vision is to cover a mining pit with a large-scale dot artwork made up of thousands of handmade circular rugs woven from discarded fabric. Students across both the Junior School and Senior School have
been busy weaving to contribute to this artwork.
To continue on with the Reclaim the Void project, we would like to collect donations of unwanted plain coloured cotton sheets (not patterned) of any size. Fitted sheets and flat sheets are accepted (any size) and can be dropped off to the PLC Lighthouse any time from now until the end of term. Recycled cotton sheets is the medium being used for this project as part of reducing any further impact on the environment.
World's Greatest Shave PLC's participation in the Leukemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave spanned two days and involved hundreds of students from both PLC and Scotch College. On Wednesday, students from Years 7 to 10 took part in braiding Junior School students' hair and Kobe Wu (Year 7), Maya Pushpalingam (Year 8), and Brigette Kapinkoff (Year 9) had large portions of their hair cut off for this worthy cause.
Yesterday, 50 students in Year 12 ventured to Scotch College to take part in collaborative efforts supporting this cause. Ava Deykin, Katherine Gower, and Nelly Galluccio braved the shave. Thank you to everyone who participated as together we have raised over $36K to find a cure for blood cancer.
Moorditj by MoonlightOver the weekend, our Gorna Liyarn girls celebrated the strength of Indigenous culture through a number of dance performances at the Moorditj Moonlight Festival. For those who may not know, "Moorditj" means "strong" in the Noongar language, and we were honoured to be a part of this event, which certainly highlighted the rich history and traditions of our Indigenous communities. A big thank you to everyone who made this event possible and
congratulations to our dancers!

Head of Senior School
Along with tens of thousands of others, I have always been encouraged and inspired by the writings of Thomas Merton. Despite living as a hermit Trappist monk, Merton’s radical writings and social engagement were so disturbingly influential. He was on the CIA’s “Most Wanted” list for his outspokenness against the Vietnam War, his critical stance on nuclear weapons, on made-in-America racism, and his cry against capitalism’s empire-building by way of global violence.
Early Finish
Last Day of TermPlease be reminded that students will finish at 1.00 pm on the last day of term, Thursday 5 April.
