WHAT'S HAPPENING AT THE CHESTER RONNING CENTRE

Breaking

A Note from the Director

Greetings!

We may have had to brace for February’s chill but we also have much to embrace this month.  It’s nice to have the opportunity to reflect on and celebrate unity, diversity, and the achievements we've made together.

As part of that celebration during Black History Month, we recently hosted a truly immersive evening at Storytelling as Ritual, which featured multidisciplinary performances, visual art, and an artist talkback. A heartfelt thank you to all who joined us online and in person. Your participation in the Ronning Centre is what makes our community feel vibrant and connected.

Looking ahead to March, we are excited for more engaging events, thought-provoking discussions, and opportunities for connection.

Thank you for your ongoing support. Let’s make this February a time of honouring and learning more about who we are as a fulsome community.

Sincerely,

Joseph R. Wiebe

On Our Bookshelf

INCANTATIONS OF BLACK LOVE
by Timiro Mohamed

Former City of Edmonton Youth Poet Laureate, Timiro Mohamed (she/her), makes a spellbinding debut with her first poetry collection, Incantations of Black Love. Drawing on references from pop culture and her Somali heritage alike, Mohamed deftly weaves lines throughout her poetry that make us feel seen, heard and, often, held accountable.
