A Note from the Director

Happy April! Spring is (supposedly) here… kind of. We’ve been grateful for the extra moisture from all the recent snow, but it definitely has us wondering if this winter will ever end..

Last month we co-hosted the UPU Collective with the Lougheed Performing Arts Centre. Our audience were immersed in stories from across the Pacific, exploring themes of identity, colonization, resilience, and the shared connection of the ocean that links island communities throughout the region. There is a link below to our post show artist talk where we had the unique opportunity to learn more from the performers, especially since we were the last stop on their tour and could hear about their experiences in Canada.

Please join us for our next Philosopher Café on Thursday, May 7, where we will have the opportunity to hear from David Goa and his special guest, Mojtaba Mahdavi, on “Iran: What Has Happened and Why”.

All are welcome to join in this conversation.

Joyful, Anyway
Kate Bowler

Honest and bracingly tender, Joyful, Anyway proves that experiencing joy does not depend on everything getting better. Drawing on a decade of living with serious illness and a lifetime studying North America’s obsession with progress, New York Times bestselling author and Duke University professor Kate Bowler shows why people so busy chasing happiness miss out on actual joy.
