Dear Eagles, I write today to share with you some upcoming opportunities and traditions that make Boston College a special place to be during the spring semester. The Campus Activities Board already has several events planned for the first few weeks, including live Bingo, Trivia, Game Nights, Paint Nights and more. Please be sure to check out CAB’s MyBC page or the weekly CAB emails for the details on these upcoming events. If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to be more involved on campus, the Office of Student Involvement is sponsoring the Spring Involvement Fair on Friday, January 28, from 5-7 pm in the Connell Recreation Center. It is never too late to get involved in campus life, so be sure to check out some of the wonderful organizations and opportunities to make the most of your time this semester and beyond. Additional student organization and event information can always be found on MyBC. For those looking to learn more about leadership and social justice, there are several opportunities later this month. The BRAVE (Becoming Real Advocates for a Vision of Equity) Conference will take place on Saturday, January 29 (register here). This conference encourages students to engage in difficult conversations and become peer advocates. Leadership Day 2022: Reframing Our Resilience will also take place on Saturday, January 29, (register here). This program will allow you to reflect on yourself as a leader and provides an opportunity to discuss leadership experiences and strategies with other BC students. Arts and cultural programming kicks into high gear during the spring semester as well with two signature events: the AHANA Leadership Council’s Showdown and the Arts Festival. More information for these events will be released soon. The Theatre Department, the BC Bands Program and various student theatrical and musical groups also have full schedules for the spring semester. Upcoming dance shows in Robsham Theater include Synergy ( Friday, January 28) and Uprising (Saturday, January 29). The Black History Month Opening Ceremony will take place on Thursday, February 3 at 5:30pm in Gasson 100. Our athletics teams are fully engaged in conference play during the spring semester and these contests provide a great opportunity to show your school spirit and support your fellow Eagles. Conte Forum will be busy this week with men’s and women’s basketball and ice hockey teams all playing home games this week. You can check out the full schedule for BC Athletics here. One of the most storied BC athletics traditions takes place in early February. Igniting cross-town rivalries, the Beanpot Hockey Tournament invites the four largest hockey programs in Boston (BC, BU, Northeastern, and Harvard) to face-off in a two-game series for both men’s and women’s hockey teams. The process for student ticket sales are being finalized and BC Athletics will send an email directly to BC students with a link to purchase tickets when they are available. Looking ahead, the Boston Marathon will take place on April 18, 2022, and we will be working with student groups to offer new and enhanced programming for this special day. The Senior Week Committee will also release information in the coming weeks on opportunities for seniors to celebrate their final semester at Boston College. As you can see, there is a lot to look forward to this semester! We will continue to remain vigilant and flexible in our approach as the public health situation evolves. As of now, indoor events will require all attendees to wear masks and any non-BC guests who attend events which are open to the public must show proof of vaccination. We will communicate any potential changes to these policies as quickly as possible. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to seeing you around campus! Sincerely, Tom Mogan, PhD
