Location Change for Embodiment: Gender in the Expanse Artist Panel The Hedreen Gallery's upcoming artist panel, curated by Arielle Simmons, MFA'21 has moved locations. You can join the public conversation with Professor Jodi O’Brien and exhibition artists on May 24, 2022 6 - 7:30p in the Pigott Auditorium. With vulnerability and empathy, artists Natalie Krick, Barry Johnson, Hanako O’Leary, Rafael Soldi, Kali Spitzer and Anthony White explore the expanse of gender with their practice. Expectations of gender and sexuality shape our social landscape. Through these unique expressions of how cultural and societal impositions may be placed on our bodies, we have the opportunity to see our own enactment of these roles more clearly. Acknowledging that gender is performative, rather than anatomical, how does our physical embodiment contribute to our gender identity? How can we engage the socially constructed qualities of our gender identity, if at all? Approaching themes that are essential to our core sense of self, Embodiment examines the relationship between our internal truth and external positionality. Each of these artists inspire and encourage us to bravely self-determine. Pandemic Priorities: New Research Released from National Archive of Data on Arts & Culture This report, Pandemic Priorities: Exploring Unemployment and Demographic Characteristics of Arts and Culture Workforces and Artists Across the U.S. (pdf) by Daniel Fonner and Rebecca Roscoe, explores the demographic characteristics of arts and culture workforces, both employed and unemployed, and its appendix provides contextual information about the Current Population Survey's applications and limitations as related to the arts and culture sector. Additionally, this analysis will look specifically at artists employed beyond just the arts and culture sector to better understand the larger ecosystem. We start in January 2020 to establish a baseline of pre-pandemic employment characteristics and track the monthly progression through January 2022.
