October 2023 has been a milestone month for WorkCover WA, with the passage of the Workers Compensation and Injury Management Bill 2023 through Parliament. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to celebrate this monumental step forward, together with our stakeholders at the WorkCover WA Conference.

The new Act is the culmination of over a decade of consultation and review and represents a comprehensive rewrite of the existing laws to provide the necessary clarity for all stakeholders.

Our focus now shifts to the implementation process and supporting our stakeholders as we journey towards a target commencement date of 1 July 2024.

We are currently inviting written submissions on key proposals for the regulations and administrative instruments to support the new Act. The public consultation period closes 1 December 2023 - see our website for details.

Make sure you are following us on LinkedIn and Facebook to keep up to date with all the latest information about the new Act.

AMS Training

As the forward momentum builds, you can count on WorkCover WA to continue to reliably support and regulate service providers.

To become an approved medical specialist in the WA scheme, a medical practitioner must be sufficiently trained in the use of WorkCover WA Guidelines and satisfy eligibility criteria.

A WorkCover WA Guidelines Training session was held on 19 October, providing an opportunity for practitioners to become familiar with how to assess an injured worker’s degree of permanent whole of person impairment caused by workplace injuries.
