From Mr Bolan's Desk

As we come to the end of another wonderful term, I want to take this opportunity to simply say thank you.

Thank you to our parents and families for the trust you place in us each day. Thank you for your encouragement, your partnership, and for the many ways you support our school community. It is a privilege to journey alongside you as we seek to nurture and educate your children.

Thank you also to our incredible staff. The care, dedication and hard work that our teachers, education assistants and support staff pour into our students each day is extraordinary. Over the course of this semester, I have watched our team invest deeply in the lives of children; celebrating successes, supporting challenges, and continually seeking ways to help every student grow academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. I am incredibly grateful for all that they do.

This week, our Semester One academic reports were released to families. Reports are an important opportunity to celebrate growth and provide insight into a child's progress and learning journey. However, I also want to remind our families that while our teachers endeavour to capture the whole child within these reports, we know that your child is far more than a collection of grades, comments or assessment results.

We see the child who shows kindness to a classmate who is having a difficult day. We see the perseverance shown when learning is challenging. We see courage, creativity, compassion, humour and character. We see children growing in confidence, learning to navigate friendships, discovering their gifts and developing their understanding of who God has created them to be.

Academic achievement matters, but it is only one part of the story. Our hope is that every child who walks through our gates knows they are valued, known and loved, and that they leave our school not only as capable learners, but as young people of character and faith.

As we finish the term, we also say goodbye to a very special member of our community, Mrs Tracey Dougherty, who commences her well-deserved retirement. Tracey's connection with Beechboro Christian School began many years ago as a parent. She officially joined the SCEA family in 2000 as an Administration Relief Officer before working in Reception and Student Services across both Ellenbrook Christian College and Beechboro Christian School. Since 2017, Tracey has faithfully served our school community, becoming a familiar and much-loved face to generations of students, parents and staff.

Mrs Dougherty has been a steady presence, always willing to help, always caring, and always serving with grace and warmth. She has been a very special part of our team and her contribution to our community has been significant. While we are excited for the adventures and opportunities retirement will bring, we will certainly miss seeing her around our school. On behalf of the entire Beechboro Christian School community, thank you Tracey, and may God richly bless this next season of life.

We also wish Mrs Nicole Campbell, my wonderful Personal Assistant, all the very best as she begins her Long Service Leave throughout Term 3. Nicole is someone who quietly keeps so many things moving behind the scenes and is a tremendous support to me, our staff and our families.

During Nicole's leave, Mrs Kerry Mullender will be returning to the school. Kerry has been part of our community for many years and has kindly agreed to come back and make sure I continue to do all the things I'm supposed to do—which, if you ask Kerry, is apparently quite a long list! I suspect she already has her clipboard ready. We hope Nicole enjoys a well-earned break filled with rest, adventure and special memories, and we look forward to hearing all about her travels when she returns in Term 4.

Finally, over the past few weeks we have introduced some new routines across the school designed to support positive student behaviour and maximise learning time.
Students in Years 1–6 may have mentioned that at the end of recess and lunch, classes now line up quietly in the Undercover Area before returning to their classrooms. The purpose of this is simple: to help students transition back into learning in a calm and focused way.

Similarly, for some time now, students have been moving between classrooms and specialist lessons by walking in two quiet lines. We have found that these calm and orderly transitions help students settle quickly, reduce distractions and maximise the valuable learning time available throughout the day.

Already, we are seeing a positive impact. Students are responding well to these expectations and classrooms are becoming calmer learning environments where students are ready to engage from the moment they arrive.

Thank you once again for your partnership this term. I pray that the upcoming holiday break provides your family with opportunities for rest, joy and time together. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for another exciting term ahead.

I pray that God will bless the time that you have to spend with your families this school holidays. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 21 July for the commencement of Term 3.

NAIDOC Celebration

This year NAIDOC week is recognised across the country during the school holidays so as a school we held our annual NAIDOC Celebration on the final day of term!

This year the theme of NAIDOC is '50 Years of Deadly'. In Aboriginal communities 'deadly' is a term of high praise! It describes something or someone as excellent, inspiring and worthy of celebration!

Across Beechboro Christian School our students participated in a range of activities that celebrate the incredible culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

Students made damper with their teachers, were read an incredible story about resilience by Miss Thomas and tried Kangaroo and Emu sausages at lunch time! Mrs Bode, Miss Byles and Mr Harris prepared incredible activities for our Year 3 to 6 students in the afternoon while our Kindergarten to Year 2's had fun at an incursion where they learnt traditional Nyoongar words and songs!

It is a privilege to be able to live and learn on Whadjuk land.

You can view more photos from our NAIDOC celebration on the school website through the link below:

Pyjama Day

Last Wednesday we held a fundraiser for our Compassion sponsor children! Students and staff got involved by wearing their comfiest pyjamas to school for the day!

All funds collected from the day go towards assisting to bring the children we sponsor out of poverty. The money raised goes towards supporting them with not only food and access to clean water but access to education, health care and other supports that they need!

Year 2 Excursion

This term, Year 2 enjoyed a fantastic excursion to the State Library of WA and The Nostalgia Box. At the State Library, we explored fractured fairy tales and discovered how familiar stories can be retold in fun and creative ways. Students enjoyed listening to stories, participating in puppetry activities, and comparing different versions of well-known tales.

We then travelled to The Nostalgia Box, where we learned about the history of video games and explored how games have changed over time. Students analysed and played a variety of games, gathering ideas and inspiration for our Technology learning.

Back at school, we have been busy working together to create our own games using ScratchJr. Students have loved learning how to code, solve problems, and bring their ideas to life. A big thank you to our wonderful parent helpers who joined us on the day. Your support helped make the excursion a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Year 6 and Year 1 student buddies

This term, our Year 6 students explored a range of emotions and different healthy strategies for managing them as part of their Health unit. Bringing their learning to life, they combined Health with Design and Technologies by designing and creating unique emotion plushies for their Year 1 buddies. Each handmade plushie represented a different emotion and was accompanied by a strategy card offering practical ways to recognise and respond to that feeling.

This week, our Year 6 students proudly presented their creations during a collaborative Health lesson with the Year 1 classes. It was wonderful to see the older students sharing their knowledge, building meaningful connections with their buddies, and encouraging emotional wellbeing in such a thoughtful and creative way. We are incredibly proud of the care, creativity and compassion our Year 6 students demonstrated throughout this project.
