October 10th is: World Mental Health Day The overall objective of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health. The Day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide. This year, the slogan of World Mental Health day is “Mental health care for all: let's make it a reality." The World Health Organization (WHO) is focusing their campaign on taking care of yourself and others, as well as living through a pandemic. Find more information about it here. Entertainment Recommendation of the Month Nothing Without Us [Anthology] Nothing Without Us, edited by Cait Gordon and Kohenet Talia C. Johnson is a multi-genre fiction anthology where the lead characters identify as disabled, Deaf, neurodiverse, Spoonie, and/or they manage mental illness. This collection includes both speculative and realistic fiction, which flow together beautifully as we navigate through the stories of these heroes. BC Career Center The DSO has partnered with the Career Center to provide tips and resources for our students with disabilities who are entering into the job or internship search process, considering applying to graduate school, or simply seeking guidance regarding career direction. Social impact jobs and internships with the federal government - The Workforce Recruitment Program is for students and recent graduates with disabilities, and brings new talent into the Federal Government. Applying is an excellent way to find an internship or permanent position at federal agencies. Register through the WRP website – click on the green “Students Register Now” button. Applications for summer 2022 and full-time, post-graduation employment due October 13. Tons of participating agencies in most states – in Massachusetts, for example, this includes the Environmental Protection Agency, The Park Service, The Department of Justice, and 9 others. The NCCSD is the National Center for College Students with Disabilities. They are the only federally-funded national center in the U.S. for college and graduate students with any type of disability, chronic health condition, or mental or emotional illness. They also support DREAM, the Disability Rights, Education, Activism, and Mentoring (DREAM), which is a national online disability cultural center connecting and supporting students to become leaders and agents of change on their campuses. The student-led organization strives to empower students with disabilities to work for campus and national change, encourage the development of disability culture and peer support, and advance the study of disabilities within academia. DREAM is open to higher education students of all types, including graduate students,
part-time students, and those who are auditing higher education courses. It is open to students of all ages with any kind of disability, culturally Deaf students, and nondisabled students who are our allies and peers. They explicitly include people who have traditionally been marginalized or under-represented in the disability or higher education communities. Resources
