THE MOST USEFUL DATA IS THE DATA YOU USE IN TIME |
|
| |
| |
Most education data becomes valuable only once it's over: a pass rate, a final average, a term that's already closed. By the time it's read, the decisions it should have shaped have already been made.
Your Term 2 data is different. It lands while Term 3, the shortest and most decisive term of the year, is still ahead of you. Used now, over the break, it stops being a record and becomes something more useful: readiness.
While records tell you what happened, readiness data does something else. It tells you what's likely to happen next, while there's still time to change it.
This is where the DDD Dashboard's Term 4 Promotion report (found on the Reports page) earns its place in your holiday planning. Instead of waiting for Term 3 results to confirm whether an intervention worked, this report uses machine learning algorithms to show you, based on current trends, where a subject or cohort is headed, before you've committed a single week of teaching time to it. It's a small shift in practice, but a significant one in mindset. Stop asking what this data proves, and start asking what it makes possible. That's the difference between reporting on a term, and shaping the next one.

BANKING ON GOOD DATA:
MEET THE EMIS OFFICIAL WHO KNOWS THE VALUE OF A SOLID INVESTMENT |
| |
| |
Every Monday morning, before most schools have settled into the week, Dolly Ramahala is already looking at the numbers — checking for learners who've stopped attending, schools that missed their weekly upload, and early warning signs across the 23 schools she supports in Limpopo’s Mopani East District.
Many of these schools are rural, some with fewer than 100 learners and no permanent administrative staff. Yet at Rethushegile Secondary School, run by just three educators, learner attendance consistently exceeds 90%. It is a result that Dolly credits as much to community trust as to close monitoring.
But none of it works without data accuracy. As schools finalise their Term 2 submissions this month, she has one rule above all others: what goes into the system has to be right, because far more than her own district relies on it.
“Data is like a bank account,” she explains. “You invest your information, and later you withdraw exactly what you need. If I need information from previous years, I know I'll find it there.”
It's a philosophy that shapes everything, from her Monday morning check-ins to how she talks to hesitant colleagues about using the DDD Dashboard. Click here to read Dolly's full story. |
