![]() Dream Big Ghana Foundation Newsletter: October 2026 We are delighted to bring you this newsletter from Dream Big Ghana Foundation (DBGF) – we are the UK charity that supports Dream Big Ghana NGO, Dream Renewables NGO and Denyigba Lorlor NGO. It’s been a while since our last newsletter, but we hope you have been keeping up to date with one of our three partner NGOs in Ghana. It’s been a busy time for all three of our partners, and we hope you enjoy the update below. But first, we must bring you some updates from the UK where we have sadly said goodbye to two Trustees, Bryan Pearson and Barnaby King. Bryan was our Chair of Trustees for 5 years and led us through a very successful period. Under Bryan’s leadership, the Foundation was able to support all three partner NGOs to grow their projects and expand the impact of their work. We thank Bryan for his efforts and wish him all the best as he continues work on his farm in the Volta Region. Barnaby King joined DBGF in 2016, one of our longest serving Trustees. During this time he has held many roles and was able to establish Dream Renewables with Samuel Yeobah. Dream Renewables has grown from a renewable energy education course in 2019, to a well-established expert renewable energy delivery and training programme operating all over Ghana. A big thank you to Barnaby for his years of hard work, and we look forward to bringing you updates on his work with Dream Renewables below. With two Trustees leaving us, we are delighted to announce that Ama Williams has stepped into the role of Chair of Trustees. Ama has been involved with DBGF for 6 years as a Trustee and is already well under way with improving the way we operate and enhancing the relationships we have with our long-standing partners.
Dream Big Ghana NGO Dream Big Ghana NGO’s (DBG) established programmes in sanitation, sports development, entrepreneurship and education continue to run, reaching thousands of men, women and children monthly. DBGs collaboration with local schools continues, with EcoSan toilet facilities regularly monitored and inspected by the DBG team to ensure proper usage and maintenance is occurring. DBG provides locally made soap and sources sawdust to allow the toilets to compost properly. The addition of sawdust to the EcoSan toilets ensures the composting process happens and means the toilets can be emptied once full and then be continuously used. Once the full chambers have been left for 9 months, the DBG team take the compost to a facility for further treatment before donating to local farmers or using at the Meet Me There farm.
The ongoing relationship between DBG and local schools ensures that the EcoSan toilets constructed provide for thousands of pupils across the 7 schools, and will continue to do so for many years into the future. You can support this work today. By donating £10 you can provide soap and sawdust for one school, ensuring good hygiene conditions and the ongoing use of the EcoSan toilet facilities. Any recent visitors to Meet Me There lodge will no doubt have passed by the Made in Dzita shop, where a vibrant array of locally made clothes, traditional African black soap and fragrant mosquito repellent are available to purchase from all-female entrepreneurs. DBG’s entrepreneurship programme has supported these local business to develop their products, including design-support and social media sessions, and the shop provides a steady stream of income from Meet Me There’s guests. The entrepreneurship programme is well-established now, and these sole-trader’s meet monthly to share challenges and opportunities they face and provide feedback on how they can improve and refine their products. If you would like to hear more about the entrepreneurship programme or support in any way, please do get in touch or visit Meet Me There lodge in the Volta Region. Dream Renewables NGO Dream Renewables have grown significantly in the last two years, reaching thousands of people across Ghana with their renewable energy solutions. The focus of their work is to equip young people in Ghana with the skills and knowledge to face the climate and energy challenges their communities are experiencing.
Thanks to funding from Gower Street, Next Energy Foundation and Comic Relief, they have delivered several projects including delivering solar power systems to five rural health clinics in the Western Region, one of which you can see in the video below. In Tenabea, Dream Renewables were able to improve access to water in the community, working with one of their former trainees Folix. And through a partnership with Twendi Solar, a solar power system was installed in Bompaso, providing for a health centre, IT lab, library and meeting space. To improve the delivery of their work, Dream Renewables have secured funding to build a renewable energy education hub. The hub will be a centre for innovation, training and community engagement, and will enable the team to speed up renewable energy adoption in rural areas. You can follow Dream Renewables journey and see the hub take shape by reading their newsletters below. Denyigba Lorlor NGO Tree planting NGO Denyigba Lorlor have been continuing their mission to plant trees throughout the Volta Region. Safo and the team delivered a small planting event this year, seeing 1500 saplings planted across five schools in the Volta Region with local school children. These trees will be tended to by the school children, and Denyigba will pay visits to the schools to check on the progress of the trees. Last year Safo took time to visit trees planted across various planting projects in the last 5 years, to see how they were growing and witness the benefits these trees are providing to local communities and the local environment. Providing food through fruit and nuts, medicinal products, shade from the sun, cooling the immediate environment, supporting local biodiversity, and providing wood for firewood and fish traps were examples of the benefits being felt by local communities.
In recent years Safo has turned his attention to building a lodge at his home near Wli. Surrounded by towering bamboo and just a short walk from the magical Wli Waterfalls, the location is truly stunning. If you are interested in visiting Safo’s place or would like to support Safo as he develops his lodge then please get in touch.
