Program Recap and A Look Ahead

Members and volunteers in front of Riverbanks Zoo sign

The FriendShip had a fun February! Early in the month, members and volunteers enjoyed visiting the animals at Riverbanks Zoo, and we had a lovely chat during our "Think Spring!" social hour at the end of the month. We had gorgeous weather both days too. Members, volunteers, and sunshine are a perfect combination!

Members and volunteers also gathered to watch the Village to Village Network's virtual celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Village Movement. Barbara Mullen, a founding member and volunteer with The FriendShip, summed up what it was like to be a part of this event: it "was inspiring to learn about the development of other villages, to feel connected to something bigger than we are, and to appreciate all that we have become." A recording is available at https://youtu.be/pxq6rIHwcSI.

There are more opportunities to have fun, be inspired, and learn something new planned for the upcoming weeks. Mark your calendars!

Reminiscences of an English Childhood During WWII (March 16)

Storyteller Shelagh Montes will present "Reminiscences of an English Childhood During WWII" on Wednesday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m. Shelagh grew up in Northern England and came to the United States in 1955. After retiring from a career as a nurse, she took up storytelling. She has been featured as the Storyteller In Residence at USC Sumter, participated in the NC Storytelling Festival in Greensboro, and more. She is not only a gifted storyteller, but also a member and volunteer with The FriendShip! We are delighted that she will share her stories and experiences with us next week! There will be time for questions and sharing at the end of our program too.

This program will take place at St. John's Episcopal Church. RSVPs would be appreciated by noon on Tuesday, March 15. You can email contact@thefriendship.org or call 803-602-6434 to RSVP. As always, we are happy to provide rides to members who need them. Guests are welcome!

Afternoon Social Hour (March 30)

At this month's Afternoon Social Hour, we will be celebrating Women's History Month by sharing thoughts and memories about important women in our lives. Join us to chat, hear each other's stories, and get to know other members and volunteers! If the weather is nice, we'll enjoy visiting outdoors, and if not, we'll have a space reserved inside.

Please join us on Wednesday, March 16 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church.  Let us know if you can attend and if you need a ride by calling The FriendShip office at 803-602-6434 or by emailing contact@thefriendship.org.
