Cr Karen Pensabene, Mayor of Strathfield

On Wednesday 26 July, Deputy Mayor Cr Cai, Cr Blackmore and GM Michael Mamo hosted a group of 34 Gapyeong students who were visiting Sydney as part of a cultural trip organised by Gapyeong County. Gapyeong County is a part of our sister city program, and we always look forward to sharing information between our two cities.  The group was given a tour around our Strathfield Library and were very impressed with our library facility.

National Tree Day was a great success on Sunday 30 July, with almost up to 300 attendees.  Thank you to the Strathfield Rotary for their support in providing a free sausage sizzle and to Joe from the Coffee Cart who made lots of coffee and hot chocolate.  We would also wish to thank the Consulate General of Saudi Arabia for providing Saudi Arabian traditional sweets and coffee and tea. It was a perfect day to be outside digging in the soil and almost 3,000 trees were planted. It will be wonderful to see them flourish and grow in Ismay Reserve.

I had the pleasure of attending Strathfield South Public School yesterday for Education Week and Book Week celebrations.  We witnessed outstanding performances including dancing, recorders, the string orchestra, school choir and piano solos. Spirits were high as teachers, students and parents were all involved in the day's activities. Harry Potter featured in the dress ups however, the teacher's unicorn, lamas in pyjamas and wizard of oz costumes were spectacular.  Well done Strathfield South Public School – we had such a great time!

Don't forget my street meetings start this Saturday. I will be near the corner of Llandilo and Kingsland Road at 1.00pm. I will also be at Strathfield Square on Monday August 7, at 8.30pm cheering on the fabulous Matildas!

As always if you require any help or information, please contact the office or email me on cr.kpensabene@strathfield.nsw.gov.au

Parramatta Road Car Yard, 1964

Parramatta Road has long been home to many large car yards. This rather small dealership, between Telopea and Courallie Avenues Homebush West, was photographed by Strathfield Council on 5 March 1964. Just eight cars are for sale. The site was purchased by Total Oil Products from the Housing Commission of NSW in the early 1960s. The Total sign is visible in the top left corner of the photo and a service station is next door on the corner of Courallie Avenue. Beyond is an Ampol service station. Sydney City Motors now occupies this site at 342-344 Parramatta Road.
