No images? Click here Hello and welcome, Over the past few years we have run a series of Community of Practice sessions. This has focused on helping to foster inter-agency approaches through the exchange of ideas, practice, knowledge and solutions. A topic of great importance that has arisen time and time again is sleep. This month we have written an article on that subject that we hope will both help and inform you in looking after your children and young people in out of home care (OOHC). Finally, if you find something missing or not covered that is important to you, just drop us a line at cetc@childhood.org.au All the best.
ArticlesChildren, young people and sleepMany of those of you who know me, know that I have a big interest in sleep hygiene and the children and young people in out of home care (OOHC). To this end I have put together a small package of material that I hope you will take the time to look at and discuss with your colleagues and carers. Trauma Informed Relationship-Based Recovery Reflection ToolChildren and young people can recover from adverse childhood experiences. However, this requires that the adults they live with and/or work with to commit themselves to a safe and trustworthy relationship. Understanding vicarious trauma and compassion fatigueResearch shows how profoundly influenced we are by other people’s emotional states and how rapidly our interpersonal affective responses occur, and how dynamically our physiology responds to others’ emotional states. This is why trauma can be emotionally contagious.
