FALL 2022

Dear Colleagues,

I hope you are all doing well and are having a successful start to the academic year.

I’m excited to share some Student Affairs updates and news (in this quarterly newsletter) that aim to highlight some of our recent initiatives and student resources.

First and foremost, I am pleased to announce the official re-establishment of our Office of the Dean of Students, comprising four main functional areas including Student Outreach and Support, Disability Services, Student Conduct, and Off- Campus Living. We invite you to visit the Office of the Dean of Students website to learn more about the programs, services, and team.

Below, I highlighted a BC News article discussing the impact our 2021 graduates are having in the world today, as well as our student communications page providing access to all of the communications we have sent to students. I also include an informational video on how staff and faculty can work with Disability Services and the Connors Family Learning Center.

Student Affairs is also sponsoring some exciting upcoming events and activities, including Wellfest, Career Fairs as well as an expanded Homecoming schedule of events taking place from October 3–9.  If you have any questions, feedback, or would like to discuss how Student Affairs may partner with you/your team, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I appreciate your continued partnership, enthusiasm, and collaboration in supporting our students. Wishing you a great fall semester!

Best regards,

Dr. Shawna Cooper Whitehead
Vice President for Student Affairs

Student Affairs Spotlight

Meet Corey Kelly, AVP and Dean of Students

As Associate Vice President/Dean of Students, my role is to have a broad view of the student experience at Boston College, to be highly attuned and responsive to student concerns, and to lead my team to do the work they do on a daily basis with students to achieve our goals. I oversee the Student Conduct and Community Standards, Student Outreach and Support, Disability Services, Off-Campus Student Living, and LGBTQ+ Student Support functions. I also have a role with crisis response, Title IX adjudication, bias incident response, and response to other significant student incidents, concerns, and challenges. Ultimately, everything we do in the office is working toward promoting a culture of care, belonging, and safety for all students.
