Click here 13 July 2023Cr Karen Pensabene, Mayor of Strathfield Council celebrated NAIDOC Week with a native reptile display, smoking ceremony and cultural performance before the official opening of the NAIDOC Week with Walangari Karntawarra exhibition. I’d like to thank the artist, Walangari Karntawarra and performers from Diramu Aboriginal Dance and Didgeridoo, who shared their time with us on a very special week. Walangari’s colourful body of work is on exhibition until 27 August during Strathfield Library opening hours. I was delighted to welcome His Excellency, the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Sydney, Mr Zhou Limin and Vice Consul, Mr Lin Jing for a meet and greet with Deputy Mayor Cr Benjamin Cai and Cr Sandy Reddy on Wednesday 12 July. These meetings are important as they help foster connections and enable us to discuss common interests as leaders with a shared goal of growing our communities. I will also be organising 4 Mayoral Street Meetings in August and September in different locations throughout our LGA. I look forward to meeting everyone and discussing local matters close to your heart. More information on these street meetings is available on our website. Non-perishable items can include bags of pasta, rice and beans; tinned vegetables, fruit and meat/tuna; boxed cereals and biscuits and long-life milk. Two donation sites are available at Strathfield Council Customer Service and Strathfield Council Library and Innovation Hub. FIFA Women’s World Cup Live Site Grab a bite from a local business, rug up and cheer on the Matildas as we live stream select matches of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Strathfield Square! The first screening takes place Thursday 20 July at 8pm. Transport Survey A survey to understand the needs for local public transport services in Strathfield will be open until Friday 11 August 2023, and your feedback will help guide Council’s next steps. 2 pop up sessions will be held throughout July for community members to have their questions answered. COMMUNITY NEWS Make sure to visit the Ironbark Gallery We celebrated NAIDOC Week with the official opening of the latest art exhibition at the Ironbark Gallery with First Nations’ Aboriginal artist, elder, educator and performer, Walangari Karntawarra who presented us with his Dreamtime stories.
