6 November 2025

Dear Residents,

The Cumberland RSL Sub-branch is organising a Remembrance Day wreath laying service on Tuesday 11 November from 10:45am at Davey Square Reserve, and I hope to see you there. Remembrance Day is a significant occasion that honours the sacrifices of military personnel and civilians who have served and died in conflicts, promoting peace and reflection across communities.

Next week also marks the launch of this year's Share the Dignity campaign as we once again fill a hand bag that's in good condition with personal care products and a Christmas card which will then be distributed a woman in crisis. Each year our residents have displayed their generous nature and Council is proud to be supporting this worthy cause once more.

If you need to contact me or have any questions, please do so by emailing me cr.bcai@strathfield.nsw.gov.au or ring our office on 9748 9999.

Cr Benjamin Cai, Mayor of Strathfield

Have Your Say on Strathfield's Heritage

Council is seeking community feedback on amendments to Part P – Heritage of Strathfield DCP 2005.

The amendments propose to:
👉 introduce site classifications (Contributory, Neutral and Intrusive) for each property in each of the HCAs. These classifications provide a clear framework for understanding how individual properties contribute to the heritage significance of an HCA. The classifications are supported by DCP controls.
👉 update Statements of Significance for 15 HCAs. These statements have been updated to provide a clearer understanding of the heritage significance of the HCA.

Have your say by completing the form by clicking the button below.

The Coo-ee March through Homebush, 1915

As news reached home of the losses at Gallipoli, recruitment drives attempted to boost the number of Australian soldiers on the front line. In Gilgandra, 26 enlistees began their march to Sydney, 515 km away, on 10 October. Reaching Homebush on 11 November, they were welcomed by the Mayors of both Homebush and Strathfield Municipalities, crowds, flags and children from Homebush School. ‘School girls passed letters to them eulogising their patriotism, and many a young soldier seemed delighted at the unexpected attention.’ By the time they reached Sydney on 12 November, their numbers had swelled to 263.

Lest We Forget.
