UALSC Tutor update - August 2024

We are 8 weeks into Summer School and with just a month to go, we wanted to thank everyone for your contributions to its success so far. Great work!

From fashion to film-making, our tutors have been inspiring students to unlock their creativity. We look forward to these last few weeks of Summer School and the stories that follow.

Read on to discover the latest news, events and updates this August.

Action required: updates to course descriptions

We are currently reviewing all courses descriptions for those scheduled with evening or weekend dates.

Over the coming weeks Marketing Team member Freya will be in touch to request any information that is missing from your course description.

Missing information and a lack of clear course outcomes make up a large number of enquiries to our customer service team. A detailed course description supports students to find the right course and make an informed decision about their purchase.

We appreciate your support in responding to Freya as promptly as possible, so these updates can be made to support Autumn and Spring term sales.

Escalating student related issues to UALSC staff

There have been a few student related incidents recently that tutors were aware of but failed to inform us, hindering our ability to support you, the tutor and students affected.

When an issue happens, we need to know as frequently we get emails, visits to the front desk or for our under 18’s courses calls from their parents about the issue that happened in class or related to the students involved.

Please do escalate any student related incidents or issues you are experiencing to the onsite UAL Short Courses team as soon as possible. It is important for our team to be informed of these in good time so we are able to support you and the student in reaching a resolution.

Listed below are our UAL Short Courses office locations:

  • CSM, Kings Cross - K001
  • Chelsea, Atterbury St - BLG12
  • LCF, East Bank - G10

Tutor survey

Don't forget to complete the tutor survey! You only need to fill it in once, but if you've remembered something you want to add feel free to complete it again.

This survey is anonymous and we welcome your candour about your experiences as a Short Course tutor. It should not take more than 6 minutes to complete and is a chance for you to comment on recent changes and make suggestions for improvements

The survey responses will be collated in November, giving us an opportunity to gather responses from both summer school and term time tutors, and we plan to share the results and actions resulting from them in early 2025.

Simply scan the QR code above, or click the link below to complete the survey.

Sharing and celebrating student work

We are excited to showcase the incredible talent and creativity of our students! Check out this selection of student work kindly sent to us by tutors over the last few weeks.

The inspiring images we receive are a true reflection of the exceptional teaching of our dedicated tutors. We would love to feature your students' artwork on the UAL Short Courses social media and in our upcoming marketing campaigns

How You Can Contribute:

  • Submit Photos: Share high-quality photos of your students' artwork. This can include paintings, sketches, sculptures, digital art, or any other creative pieces. Please send files to the marketing team by email: UALSCmarketing@arts.ac.uk alternatively, send them to the same email address using WeTransfer.
  • Encourage students to share: Please encourage students to follow us on Instagram and share their work with us directly: @UALShortCourses
  • Share student stories: We know that every day, you witness amazing progress and success in your students' journeys. We believe these stories deserve to be shared and celebrated! If you have met any students this summer with a great story to tell, please do get in touch with the marketing team so we can share these on our blog.
  • Student Permission: If photos are of the students themselves (not just their work), please ensure that you have obtained permission from both the students and their guardians (if under 16) to use photos for promotional purposes. Please contact the marketing team for a downloadable consent form.

Student feedback surveys

Please remind your students to fill in their post course survey which is sent to their email after their short course finishes. It is such a useful tool for us in improving our learning environment and student experience.
